Excalibur Hyatt Mattress Run
One of the cheapest ways to rack up Hyatt stays is to visit the cheaper Vegas Mlife properties. Of course stays will become irrelevant under the new World of Hyatt program, but for this year they are still relevant and December is a great time to get them. Why? Because outside the week of New Year’s, it is one of the slowest times in Vegas and thus midweek prices are rock bottom.
Thankfully I ended up being only one Hyatt stay short of Diamond status this year. To remedy that I recently booked a room at the Excalibur by logging into my Mlife account. The rate was $20 per night and of course there is that pesky resort fee. Still, with all taxes and fees the total for one night was only $55. Cheaper than pretty much any Hyatt.
The “Stay”
If you have Hyatt Diamond status then you should have Mlife elite status as well. At the Excalibur make sure to check-in at the Mlife elite desk to the far right of the registration area. It seems isolated and sort of in the corner, but they will take good care of you. Just like during my two stays last year, I was given a room in the “upgraded” Resort Tower.
Now people like to make fun of the Excalibur and call it a dump, but the truth is the Resort Tower isn’t bad. Is it luxurious? Absolutely not, but the rooms have been renovated, they have flat screen televisions and the bathrooms are decently appointed. For $55 per night, you really can’t expect anything more than that. I hear the other tower is a different story though, so your mileage may vary.

More Thoughts
In case you don’t really want to sleep at the Excalibur because for example you live in Las Vegas and like your own bed better, then don’t worry. Once you check-in you are good to go. Checkout is handled automatically or you can actually checkout via a link they send to your email. Simple.
Finally, the absolute favorite part of my stay was the view. The Excalibur is across Tropicana Avenue from New York New York, City Center, MGM Grand, the T-Mobile Arena and the rest of the Strip and thus has a beautiful semi-detached view. If you can score a room on the Tropicana facing side of the building, the view is pretty darn good and well worth the $55.
World of Hyatt Nights
The Resort Tower at the Excalibur isn’t terrible and maybe could even be considered nice if you factor in the view. While World of Hyatt eliminates stays, those who find themselves a few nights short in the future, might just look towards this hotel as a way to rack up cheap credit Sunday-Thursday. At $55 per night, mattress running for nights might just be the new game.

[…] As things began to recover, companies tried to find ways to boost revenues, thus the resort fee was born. (It existed elsewhere but not in Vegas.) At first resort fees were nominal and you could even get them waived with a fight. Over time though they skyrocketed and avoiding them became much more difficult. Some nights the resort fee is higher than the room rate! […]
[…] past weekend I stayed at two different Hyatt Hotels in the San Francisco Bay area. Combined with my recent Excalibur mattress run, these were the last three stays I needed to re-qualify for my beloved Hyatt Diamond status. That […]
Great. I’m gonna stay four nights at the New York-NY in Feb. they also do the Mlife thing. 99 a night though.
Must be nice living in LAS. Such a great place to be at for mattress running with Hyatt. I can’t imagine hotel hopping every day for 25/60 straight days.
I did my last Hyatt Diamond MR the past year. Its overhaul caused me to do the SPG Plat Challenge instead of which we’re now leaving LAS (currently @ SLS on a 3 day $41/nt rate $25/day f&b credit, $30/day resort fees waived b/c of a blackout issue on our floor).
