Fare Sales Galore

Today must be the day of fare sales, because three airlines have come out with limited time sales which are somewhat decent. While Frontier’s requires limited travel days and thus is the least interesting, the other two are very nice. Let’s take a look.

JetBlue 30% Off Sale

The Offer:

Get 30% off your base fare to all destinations when you use the code BIG30.

Key Terms:

  • Book by 10/19/16
  • Travel 10/26 – 12/15/16 (Blackout dates: 11/18 – 11/28/16)
  • Excludes travel on Sundays
  • Flight must originate in a U.S. JetBlue city “including Puerto Rico”
  • Not valid on previous bookings
  • Promo codes can only be redeemed online at jetblue.com/promo.

You can find a full list of terms here.

Analysis:

This promo is great since all routes are included. If you have travel coming up that isn’t on a blackout date, I definitely think it is worth taking a look at JetBlue to see how this promo works for you. I have found the JetBlue on board experience is nicer than your average legacy carrier and superior to Southwest as well.

Virgin America One-Day Sale Fare

The Offer:

We took “Best U.S. Airline” in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards for the ninth year in a row. Book celebratory fares by tonight to fly by March 8, 2017

Key Terms:

  • Main Cabin tickets must be purchased by 11:59 pm CT on Tuesday, October 18, 2016.
  • Fares for SEA, PDX, AUS, ORD, DEN, DAL, JFK-FLL, LAS-SFO, LAX-SFO, LAS-LAX, PSP-SFO, SAN-SFO, and HI are one-way and require a 14-day advance purchase where travel must occur between November 1, 2016 and March 8, 2017.
  • All other markets require a 21-day advance purchase where travel must occur between November 8, 2016 and March 8, 2017.
  • 2016 Blackout dates include:: 11/10, 11/14, 11/22 – 11/28, and 12/22 – 12/31. 2017 Blackout dates include: 1/1 – 1/3, 1/16 and 2/20.
  • Seats are limited, subject to availability, and may not be available on all flights.

Analysis:

The cheapest route is LAS-LAX for $39 but there are a number of options, especially on the West Coast for $49 or $59 each way. Since Virgin America is revenue based, the points required are based on the fare. Many of these fares are less than 2,000 Elevate points each way.

You can find the full list of discounted fares and terms on their promo page.

Frontier Fare Sale

The Offer:

Fly away with fares as low as $20

Key Terms:

  • Fares are one way and do not require roundtrip purchase.
  • Fare(s) shown includes all transportation fees, surcharges and taxes, and are subject to change without notice. Seats are limited at these fares and certain flights and/or days of travel may be unavailable.
  • The dates of travel vary depending on the routes.

You can find the full list of discounted fares and terms on their promo page.

Analysis:

There are definitely some very good fares here, but remember Frontier is a low cost carrier which means fees for large carry-on bags and and many other things. Additionally, they have blackout dates and only Tuesday/Wednesday travel is available under the promotion. I included this in the roundup since it may be nice for some, but would not find this deal worthy of a standalone post.
