Grand Hyatt Bangkok Review

For a long time the Grand Hyatt Erewan Bangkok was the only full service Hyatt in the city. Long held in high regard by Hyatt loyalists, the hotel now faces stiff competition from other properties likes the Hyatt Regency Bangkok and Park Hyatt Bangkok. The Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit is even an incredibly nice option despite being a limited service hotel. In this Grand Hyatt bangkok review we’ll look at the hotel, its location and why you should consider it over the competition for an upcoming stay.

Overview & Pricing

I stayed for one night at the Grand Hyatt Erewan Bangkok during a trip with my son in 2019. We stayed during the Songkran Festival and had a great time. During the same trip we also stayed at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok and the Hyatt Place Bangkok both of which you can read about by clicking the linked names.

Rates can vary wildly at this hotel, but expect to pay north of $160++ USD for a standard room here. Grand Hyatt Bangkok is a category 3 World of Hyatt property, meaning it costs 12,000 points, the same as the Hyatt Regency. We used points for our stay and were upgraded to a standard suite with my World of Hyatt Globalist status.

The Grand Hyatt Erewan Bangkok has a fantastic location within Thailand’s capital. It is located next to the Erewan shrine, tons of shopping malls and both BTS Skytrain lines to get around the city. I think this is the best located Hyatt in Bangkok, although admittedly the Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Place hotels are well located too.

Lobby & Check-In Experience

My son and I arrived at the hotel after transferring from the Hyatt Regency down the street. The walk from the Chit Lom BTS station was about 2-3 minutes. Upon entering I really enjoyed the Grand lobby which was huge, full of light and even had trees! It is a an incredibly inviting space and a nice area to sit and pass the time.

After inquiring at the front desk we were told to check-in at the Grand Club due to my World of Hyatt Globalist status. At check-in we were initially given a standard room, but after inquiring I was upgraded to a Grand Suite as per the terms of World of Hyatt. The staff was very friendly at check-in and every time we visited the lounge.

Grand Hyatt Bangkok Review – The Room

The one thing I had heard about the rooms at the Grand Hyatt Erewan Bangkok was that they are dated and in need of a refresh. Technically Grand Hyatt is a more upscale brand than Hyatt Regency, however with that hotel being so new, this one has a lot to live up to. I am happy to say that while the room is a bit dated, the materials were of high quality and I actually liked the design.

Our suite had a half bath at the entry plus a living room and a separate bedroom area. As is fairly typical at Grand Hyatt hotels in Asia the bathroom featured a separate tub and shower. I particularly loved the tile found in the two bathrooms and didn’t mind the decor throughout the room. It isn’t nearly as modern as some might like, but it felt high quality to me. In other words, it worked for me.

Perhaps the most important part of a room is its beds. The bed in our Grand Hyatt Erewan Bangkok suite felt a bit stiff as is expected in Asia, but it was comfortable enough. My son was provided a rollaway in the living room and it was a real bed as well. We could have taken a regular room with 2 beds, but we both enjoyed the extra space that the suite provided.

Grand Club

As a World of Hyatt Globalist member my son and I received complimentary access to the Grand Club and took advantage of their evening service which included a decent spread of food plus free drinks. I would say the Grand Club was a nice step above the Regency Club at the Hyatt Regency in both the food and service. The space is fairly large, but be warned it can get quite crowded during busy times. (See bottom for more photos)

At the entrance to the Grand Club is a desk that is always staffed. This is where we checked in and where we were happily greeted every time we entered the Club. The staff was great and made sure to learn our names even though we were there only one night. They also booked us on a shuttle to Hua Hin with very little notice, which is something that was definitely appreciated.

Grand Hyatt Bangkok Breakfast Buffet

Breakfast is complimentary for World of Hyatt Globalist members and even though it isn’t required they gave us a choice of having our breakfast either in the Grand Club or the main buffet downstairs. The main buffet had a much more elaborate spread including tons of both Western and local flavors. As far as breakfast buffets go it was fairly standard which is to say it won’t blow you away like some Hyatt hotels in Asia (Grand Hyatt Hong Kong comes to mind), but you will leave satisfied. Additionally, the buffet is located in the beautiful lobby area which makes it a pleasant place to have a meal.

One More Thing…

This hotel has a reputation for some seedy happenings (ladies of the night, etc.) in one of its bars according to others who have gone there. We avoided the area where all of this happens which is easy since it isn’t right off the lobby. You can stay at this hotel with a family without issue considering the lobby gets you to your room and out to the city without having to go through those areas. I never felt uncomfortable with what I saw happening at the Grand Hyatt Erewan Bangkok for what it is worth.

Grand Hyatt Bangkok Review – Bottom Line

While our stay at the Grand Hyatt Erewan Bangkok was only one night, I really enjoyed the hotel and look forward to what it will be following an upcoming rumored refresh. I really loved the lobby and the staff in the Grand Club were amazing. The spread in the Club and downstairs at the buffet was better than the Hyatt Regency, but not among the best I’ve seen. Overall this is a solid hotel with a great staff in a fantastic location and I would definitely come back.

  1. My wife went out to smoke on our last stay at the Grand Hyatt and despite being a westerner wearing obvious tourist apparel was treated as a lady of the night by male visitors. The staff did nothing to aid her. It left a rather bad taste in our mouths. That said, the club lounge has superb views and the rooms are quite nice.
