Hawaii Adds New Restrictions as New Covid Cases Spike

Because of a recent spike in Covid-19 cases around the country, Hawaii on Tuesday announced new restrictions on the islands. While this might impact your stay, the entry requirements for visitors have not changed, so you are still able to visit.

“The Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has changed the course of the pandemic in Hawaiʻi. We are seeing case numbers in the 600s – the highest numbers we’ve seen since this pandemic began,” said Gov. Ige. “This requires immediate and serious attention to avert unmanageable strains on our healthcare system and other catastrophic impacts to the state.”

The executive order signed by Gov. David Ige limits social gatherings to no more than 10 people indoors and no more than 25 outdoors. Patrons in restaurants bars and social establishments must also remain seated with parties maintaining at least 6 ft distancing between groups (with maximum groups size of 10 indoors and 25 outdoors)

The order says that there will be no mingling, and masks must be worn at all times except when actively eating or drinking.

The counties will review proposals for all professionally sponsored events for more than 50 people, to ensure that appropriate safe practices will be implemented. County approval is required for professional events for more than 50 people.

Hawaii currently has a seven-day average of more than 500 cases a day, up from just 60 a month ago. Test positivity rate of has also increased to 7.25% from 2.25%.

  1. Haha George you are funny. Politicians will never let this end. Over 3 people at a table is bad but 3 people sitting together on a plane is OK. Get the vaccine, but you’ll still transmit the disease. Wear a mask, but they don’t work. It’s all so silly. Let us live our lives and stop with these stupid nonsensical mandates that aren’t based on science.

    Now the vaccinated transmit just as much as the unvaccinated. So, cases rise?
    But… deaths are limited.
