Some Are Seeing Upgrade Offers For Ascend Card, 150K Hilton Points!

It looks like a new batch of people are being targeted (HT: Traveling for Miles)

American Express is targeting some customers who have the no fee Hilton card with an offer to upgrade to Hilton Ascend and get 150,000 points. We have seen this offer in the past for the Aspire card. The nice thing about upgrade offers is that they don’t require a hard pull and the annual fee is usually prorated the first year.

Details

Upgrade and earn 150,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after you spend $3,000 in purchases on the Card within your first 3 months of Card Membership

The offer was sent by email or can be found at the top of the no fee Amex card page right below home, statements etc. bar.

Ascend Card

The Hilton Honors American Express Ascend card earns points the following ways:

  • 12X Hilton Honors bonus points for each dollar of eligible purchases charged on your Card directly with a participating hotel or resort within the Hilton Portfolio.
  • 6X Hilton Honors bonus points for each dollar of eligible purchases on your Card at U.S. restaurants, at U.S. supermarkets, and at U.S. gas stations.
  • 3X Hilton Honors bonus points for all other eligible purchases on your Card.

It also offers the following perks:

  • Earn a free weekend night after you spend $15,000 in a calendar year on your card.
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Earn 500 Hilton Honors bonus points when you use your card to both book online and pay for your Hilton stay.
  • A limited Priority Pass Lounge Membership – 10 free visits per cardmember year.
  • As an American Express Ascend card member, you’ll receive Hilton Honors Gold status automatically and can upgrade yourself to Diamond status with $40,000 in spend during the calendar year.

Conclusion

This is an amazing deal and it is even better than the current public bonus on the Ascend Card. And you don’t even have to use a hard pull to get it. Let me know in the comments if you are seeing the offer as well.

  1. Got the offer as well and upgrade was super easy. New cards came in the mail in less than a week. This is a great deal.

  2. I also got this offer but it also said you could get additional $10000 bonus points, did anyone else get that offer?

    • In the past people have signed up for the card and then upgraded a different card. But with Amex cracking down now it is a little risky. I would say sign up for the card and then upgrade your no fee card down the road. Space them out a little bit.

  3. I did not receive offer in mail nor did it appear in my Amex Hilton online box. I tried to apply for a card on the 125k offer and received “player” reject even thought had never closed an Amex account (I did have 6 Amex cards at the time with good 6+ years history and only one of them was opened for bonus sign-up). Frustrated I called Amex to see about a workaround….surprise… I was offered the 150K bonus for upgrading my “forced” Citi upgrade to Hilton. Got the card and paid Pay1040 estimated taxes $3k. Bonus achieved.
    Advice to all: CALL AMEX

  4. My wife got the offer. She had closed her no fee card last November. Well, the 150K are now in her Hilton account. I was the surprised one. Yep it softened the blow a bit from having to pay taxes with that card. So much for Trump tax changes being good, at least not good for me.

  5. I got an upgrade offer to Ascend in early March for 150k points after spending 3k. One week after the upgrading to Ascend, I’m seeing another upgrade offer to Aspire for 150k points after 4k spend. This is great as I was planning on eventually getting the Aspire card anyway and now I can get it without a hard pull.

However, I have already made significant legitimate spending on the Ascend, so I’d like to wait until I get the 150k points. Once that posts, I’m planning to upgrade to Aspire (Assuming the upgrade offer is still there). Do you think there’d be any problem? Generally, Amex claws back Welcome Bonus after closing/downgrading within 12 months. As I’m planning to upgrade within 12 months, I hope there’d won’t be any clawback.

    • I can’t say for sure. I think it would work out but with Amex you never know. Crazy that they would offer it back to back like that. In the past people would upgrade and downgrade multiple times within a few months without issues but they are a lot more stingy now.

  6. Mine was 125k from a phone agent – guess I should have held out. Will downgrade in a year as I rarely stay at Hilton & don’t need the perks.

  7. I got that upgrade offer several months ago. Jumped on it. The bonus points posted quickly after I met the spending threshold even before my statement came.
