Hulu Amex Offer

Hulu Amex Offer

A couple of weeks ago American Express released a very nice targeted offer for Hulu. If you have the offer, you can get a $50 statement credit with $50 or more in spend. Given that their basic plan is only $7.99 per month this can amount to 6+ months of free streaming service.

But for those of us who had the offer on many cards, there is a better way. After the Amex Offer surfaced, I theorized that I could essentially get 9 months of streaming Hulu + Live TV & Showtime for only $25. After factoring in another $15 for signing up through the Swagbucks portal, the cost is only $10 or just over $1 per month.

One of the problems I ran into with this plan was the first month. Because Showtime has a free trial, the first month’s bill is only $43.99 instead of the normal $53.99. Since I need to charge $50 to a card, I decided to go ahead and pay for the basic streaming service on another account with the same card.

It looks like this:

After seeing the charge on May 31 post, I signed up on June 2, for the second account for my office. Immediately after signing up for the $7.99 charge, I received the “Congrats” Amex Offer email. Then, it didn’t take long for the credit to post.

Conclusion

Going forward my monthly bill will be $53.99 on my main account and I will probably cancel the second account after a month. This means that as long as I switch out my payment card each month, I should be paying $3.99 per month for the service until the Amex Offer expires in roughly 9 months! Not bad.

  1. For Hulu Live TV plan, is there an option to watch the shows later, or you’d have to record the live shows?

  2. Good deal if you like Hulu. I have a free membership, long story, and I hardly ever watch it. Of course I’m more of a movie person. Thanks for the post. I think this is a good learning experience for future offers.

  3. But you are still losing $4/month for something that probably you wouldn’t have signed up for if there was no Amex offer unless you were already paying for TV to another company and now just switched it
