Free Diamond Status For the World!
Last year I documented my chronicles of obtaining Hyatt Diamond status through their challenge. At the time the status was given up front and could be retained after completing 12 nights within 90 days. Then the challenge went away and eventually came back, but without the granting of the status up front. In other words, you had to earn it before getting the benefits.
Now, apparently Hyatt is making it easier than ever to get Diamond status. So easy in fact, that it is possible to get matched instantly. Just read this tweet. In fact, View from the Wing is confirming (and a hat tip to Gary) that Hyatt is instantly matching people via Twitter until 2017. Our good friend PDX Deals Guy successfully obtained a match just a few minutes ago.
Mixed Feelings & ACT Fast!
I can’t say that I’m happy as someone who has spent the entire year struggling to requalify, but that doesn’t mean I want to keep this from everyone. Â If you are interested in Hyatt Diamond status and are an elite of another program (and who isn’t with credit cards) and can prove at least one stay, then I suggest heading to Twitter to ask.
My guess is they will be bombarded with requests, so acting sooner rather than later is probably a good idea! I sort of wish you good luck, but then again I am sort of bitter. 😉
Update: PDX Deals Guy has told me that the agent also said the match could be requested by emailing Goldpassport@hyatt.com with all of the relevant information.

I have Hyatt Gold now. I got it by offering a card number. I don’t have other gold or above status in other hotels. Is there a way help me get a diamond? Thank you.

I wonder how stringent they are in checking out each person’s qualifying statuses.
Feel like I am the only guy on the block that can’t qualify. Only status I have is Club Carlson through the credit card, but I don’t have any stays. Been staying with friends so often that besides my Disney trip, I don’t think I have stayed in any hotels in 2015.
Stings a little because there is a very good chance I go to the PH Maldives next winter and diamond would be great there.
Oh well, win some, lose some.

Haha. I just told a friend that. I said I can only be so mad, considering I just got my AA Exec Plat by flying a fraction of what it takes to qualify!
Both in the span of 4 days for me! #FeelingLucky
do you need top tier status (platinum) with spg for them to give a match? it seems from Gary’s site a guy was able to match with just spg gold
Given the timing, it’s definitely a grab for SPG’s top tier members. Expect some type of official correspondence from Hyatt the next few days clarifying this offer. Like you, having worked diligently to requalify for Diamond, this is not the welcome news.
I’d like to send an email. Do they need anything other than my IHG number and status (Spire)? Thanks.
They need proof of a stay. It isn’t clear exactly what programs they are matching (I know SPG for sure), so I would suggest confirming everything via Twitter.

Yep, I’m sure upset it’s that easy after working mine this year. I had thought that they were actually going to make it more difficult with the return of it in the next form. Guess I was wrong
You win some and you lose some! No need to be upset. Or at least I keep telling myself that. 🙂
