QUICK TAKE

A modern and comfortable hotel in a good Bangkok location. The rooms are a bit small, but the decor is very modern and the views from the rooms and club lounge are worth a look. Overall this is a great option to consider when visiting Bangkok.

Hyatt Regency Bangkok Review

The Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit opened about a year ago to much fanfare in Bangkok. It brings a very modern take on the Hyatt Regency brand to a good location within Bangkok and represents a worthy competitor in the hotel market of Thailand’s capital. In this Hyatt Regency Bangkok Review we’ll look at the hotel in detail including our suite, the club lounge, facilities and more.

Overview & Pricing

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit during a trip with my son in 2019. We stayed during the Songkran Festival and had a great time. During the same trip we also stayed at the Grand Hyatt Bangkok and the Hyatt Place Bangkok both of which I will review separately.

Rates can vary wildly at this hotel, but expect to pay north of $150++ for a standard room here. Hyatt Regency Bangkok is a category 3 World of Hyatt property, meaning it costs 12,000 points. We used points plus a Globalist Tier Suite Upgrade to guarantee a suite during our stay.

  • Cash Price: $150++ USD

Hyatt Regency Bangkok Location

The Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit is very well located within the city. I personally think the location of Grand Hyatt is slightly better, but the Hyatt Regency is in the center of the action at night time plus it is attached to the Nana BTS station, meaning you can get anywhere very quickly. Location is really a matter of preference in Bangkok, but for convenience this location is very good. You can also easily reach the hotel from Suvarnabhumi Airport with a quick transfer.

Lobby & Check-In Experience

While I didn’t check-in to this hotel personally, my son arrived early in the day following a long set of flights LAS-LAX-TPE-BKK and was given an early check-in without issue. The lobby itself is a very attractive area which is constantly full of hustle and bustle along with more staff members than you can count.

The abundance of staff members is a common theme not only at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok but at other Thai hotels as well. Service tends to be very good in Thailand and the Hyatt Regency Bangkok was no different. Every time we left and came back to the hotel we were greeted excitedly which made it a nice place to come back to. Well, the staff plus the air conditioning! 🙂

Hyatt Regency Bangkok Review – The Room

As I mentioned before, our room at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit was a suite. I used a Globalist Tier Suite Upgrade certificate to guarantee us an upgrade to a base suite even though I only booked a base room with points. The Regency Suite isn’t the largest (it’s cozy) I have seen, but with separate living and bedroom areas, it was large enough for my son and I each to have our own space.

One thing I noticed right away when arriving was the windows that surround the bedroom and bathroom. The views from my room (see more photos at the end of the post) were stunning and were great to wake up to in the morning. I will say that the windows are very see through from the outside, which could lead to problems on the lower floors, but I did appreciate the view.

Hyatt Regency Bangkok Review bathroom

Moving on to the bathroom one could see how people peeping in could become an issue. It too is surrounded on all sides by windows and is an amazing way to take in the surrounding area. I would be cautious about who might be looking in if you are worried about such things, but the design is something I cannot fault too much given the views.

Very Attractive Decor

Throughout the hotel and the room the decor at Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit is very modern. I was reminded that I was at a Hyatt Regency and not a higher end brand by the use of laminates and other non-solid materials in many places, however that did not detract. The materials were beautiful and the hotel really is stunning to look at. They nailed it with the design of the Hyatt Regency Bangkok and it really shows how they can make a hotel look amazing even if they aren’t using solid woods everywhere.

The Regency Club

As a World of Hyatt Globalist I was given access to the Regency Club for the course of my stay. Like the lobby, this lounge is staffed all day with plenty of people eager to help serve you. There were times when the service almost became “too much” in the lounge, but the staff truly was amazing. Just don’t expect to be left alone when you come for a quick drink in the middle of the day and there are 6 staff members and you! 🙂

The food in the Grand Club was fairly good too. This spread won’t win any awards, however everything we tried including the couple of hot items each day was good. They also had soup and the standard spread of meats and cheeses in the evening. For breakfast the spread was smallish but good. I’ll include a more pictures at the bottom for you to take a look.

One final thing I need to mention about the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Regency Club is the view. The club sits at the top of the hotel tower giving it incredible views of the city. This narrow outdoor viewing area is amazing to take in the city during sunset. People do smoke out there, but spending a few minutes around sunset is highly rewarding.

Facilities

During my stay at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit I had the opportunity to enjoy the infinity pool which also has great city views. It was quite busy during my visit with families and Instagram models (two IG models spent an hour trying to get the perfect shot). The hotel also has a well equipped gym with views of the city as well.

Hyatt Regency Bangkok Review – Bottom Line

Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit is a beautiful hotel and a great example of Hyatt’s new design language in Asia. Combining attractive modern decor with comfortable rooms and a staff eager to help makes this hotel a winner. The location is good too and it is a very easy place to base yourself while visiting Bangkok. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

  1. Which has the better overall lounge experience? The Grand Hyatt or Hyatt Regency? Also, did the Hyatt Regency permit you to have breakfast at a restaurant like the Grand Hyatt did?

    • Grand Hyatt has a more robust lounge offering I would say. Better quality foods because the brand standards are a bit high. I did enjoy the HR lounge, but it wasn’t world class. The GH lounge was a bit better, but again I’ve experienced far better in terms of food quality at many other Hyatt lounges around Asia.

At the time of our visit I was told no about breakfast downstairs whereas the GH allowed it. I have some friends there now and I’ll report back if they say breakfast can be had downstairs.

  2. There is an area across the street that has stalls with food and other vendors. There are tables/places to sit and live (loud) music at certain times. Passed a few single-person food vendors in the side streets. When I inquired at the lounge about local Thai food was directed to Terminal 21, a multi-story shopping complex a couple blocks away. The Thai restaurant that we ate at was quite good and had a nice history, but the setting was very modern and geared to young people.

  3. Thank you for this review! Looking forward to your other ones. Is there a cost for the rollaway for a globalist? nonglob? Is the pool heated?

  4. Thanks for the review. Is there street food nearby? One huge selling point for the Grand Hyatt was the proliferation of street food vendors until the government kicked them out a few years ago. Also, any idea if there are reasonable laundry places nearby? Again the Grand Hyatt is bereft now although the Royal Orchid Sheraton has both street food and laundry nearby.
