Hyatt Regency DFW Review

I recently had the opportunity to stay one night at the Hyatt Regency DFW. Since I am currently working on completing the Diamond Challenge, I opted to book by paying Cash + Points. This property is in Category 2, meaning it costs 4,000 points plus $55 per night. The regular room rate was $129 per night for the night that I stayed.

The Hyatt Regency is one of two Hyatt hotels located inside of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. (I will review the Grand Hyatt soon.) The property recently underwent a major renovation. All of the guest rooms and public areas have been redone and the hotel feels very clean and modern.

With that said, it is clear that the interior designer likes earth tones and I feel they were slightly overused. Everything was jut a tad bit too brown for me, but that is a minor quibble. This is a nice hotel and certainly is worth the Regency branding.

This is the airport entrance/exit with the signage for the hotel.

The hotel is located just outside of Terminal “C” inside of the airport. To reach it, first take the airside Skylink to Terminal “C”. The airport does have landside inter-terminal busses, but they take much longer.

Once at terminal “C” exit through “Entry UL C19”. If you go out of other exits, there may not be signage. From UL C19, you walk straight across and follow the signs to the hotel. It is about a five minute walk through a parking garage from the exit of the terminal to the lobby.

Diamond Amenities

The view from my room. I was given a higher floor, but no other upgrade.

At check-in, I was greeted as a Diamond member and offered the choice of a welcome amenity or 1,000 points. I chose to take the amenity since I hadn’t eaten much.

The food portion of the welcome amenity consisted of two half sandwiches. One of the sandwiches contained shrimp and the other steak. Both were very good. I was also given the choice of a bottle of wine or other beverage and I chose the wine. (Photo in the gallery at the end.)

I was also given free breakfast in the restaurant since this property does not have a lounge. Unfortunately they do not allow Diamond members to order a la carte off of the menu. The only choice for breakfast was the buffet.

Hyatt Regency DFW Review - Hotel Room
Hyatt Regency DFW – Room

I was given a room on a high floor, but no other upgrade. My room was a standard king sized room which was fine. There was plenty of space, especially for one person. In addition to the bed, the only other seating in the room was a mesh chair near the rather small desk.

This hotel was originally built in the 1970’s and unfortunately the size of the bathroom reflects this. While the renovated bathroom is beautiful, it is rather small. If two people were sharing this space, it wouldn’t be very pleasant.

My room’s view was of the road that runs in and out of the airport. I would have liked to have a view facing airplanes, but it wasn’t offered. Fortunately one doesn’t usually stay at an airport hotel for the view.

As with a lot of airport hotels, the Hyatt Regency DFW has ample convention space. It was unused during my visit, but this hotel looks to be able to accommodate very large groups.

The Hyatt Regency DFW also has a nice outdoor pool located off of the lobby and a well equipped gym on the second floor. I had a chance to try out the gym and the equipment is well maintained and very modern with televisions and touchscreens on all of the cardio equipment.

Along with most of the convention space. the hotel’s business center is located in the basement. Unfortunately it is branded as a FedEx Office location which means that everything costs money.

My only encounters with food at the hotel were the Diamond amenity and breakfast. As I previously mentioned, the sandwiches provided were very tasty, but hardly a meal. Of course, they weren’t supposed to be.

As for breakfast, the buffet had a decent selection of pastries and fruit along with a few hot items such as bacon, scrambled eggs & potatoes.

I was very glad to see the buffet had an omelette bar as well with a number of fresh ingredients. The cook was able to make my omelette without oil and it was delicious. The buffet costs $16 per person which I feel isn’t a bad deal given the hotel’s remote location.

Hyatt Regency DFW – Check-In Area.

As you can see in this Hyatt Regency DFW Review, the hotel is a nice property and its location inside of the airport is incredibly convenient. I did prefer the Grand Hyatt DFW to the Regency, but the latter is at least $50 cheaper per night and is very nice in its own right.

In the end I can definitely recommend this hotel. The bed was comfortable, the room spacious and the service good. My only small complaints are the lackluster view and the disappointingly small bathrooms. For an airport hotel built in the 1970’s, it exceeded my expectations.
