Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center Overview
Just a couple of days ago the brand new Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center opened its doors to guests. Not only is this brand new 600 room hotel convenient for conventions, but it is well located sitting just across the street from the Moda Center (NBA Arena) and on the city’s MAX light rail system.
I have been following the construction of this hotel because my friend PDX Deals Guy is always inviting me up to a Blazers game. Up until now Hyatt has only had limited service properties in Portland (although a new category 4 Hyatt Centric Downtown is opening in February as well), but thankfully those days are over. Not only does this hotel look amazing, but it is only a category 3, meaning it will cost 12,000 World of Hyatt points per night which is a bargain on many nights considering hotel prices in the city.
Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center – First Look
Speaking of PDX Deals Guy, he stopped into the hotel to grab a first look after the game last night. As you can see the lobby is gorgeous with a very modern aesthetic. They even put up some Christmas decorations despite opening very late in the holiday season.
Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center – Dining
The hotel features two full service restaurants and a market quick service concept. Here is how Hyatt describes them in the press release:
- Unity-Q, the open-concept restaurant features a distinguished menu featuring the convergence of global cuisine with Asian, Latin and American BBQ flavors.
- Spoke & Fork, the lobby restaurant and bar, serves Portland beers, specialty cocktails and local fare, with a 55-foot granite bar and lounge area.
- The Market, a 24-hour premium grab-and-go retail space with café seating serving local brews from Portland Coffee Roasters, provides freshly prepared hot and cold food as well as beverages.
While I can’t yet speak to the quality of the food, the aesthetics are definitely working for me.
Hyatt Regency Portland – Rooms
While this convention hotel features 600 rooms, it does disappoint a bit with only 16 suites available. With that said, rooms are very attractive and range in size from about 310 square feet up to 400+ square feet for standard rooms. Suites start at around 600 square feet and go up to 1,600 square feet. As of the time of opening staff said they are only utilizing about 30% of the hotel’s rooms and will ramp up as demand requires.
Check out pictures of the rooms on the Hyatt website.
Bottom Line
The brand new Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center looks like an amazing property for both conventions and also for visiting the city if you don’t want to be right in the heart of Downtown. I am excited to give this hotel a try on my next trip to Portland.

5 nights reservation made next year for a family trip to Portland (our 1st time in Portland). Till now I can’t find any review on the rooms including suites. The reason I’ve chosen this hotel is as you mentioned only cost me 12K points / night. Hope I have made a right decision instead of going to the downtown Hyatt properties (Centircs, House etc)
How much is parking? Can’t seem to find that info from Hyatt. Great spot to not need a car though.
I just heard back from Hyatt since it isn’t on their website. They only have valet parking and it is $36 per night.
Too bad that downtown Portland now looks like one big homeless camp. So very disappointed when I recently visited. What has happened to this once beautiful city???
Has been happening in many liberal cities in America unfortunately……Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, etc….
Rookie mistake: You didn’t mention that the hotel offers a Regency Club Lounge. It’s stated in the press release.
Thanks for being so polite Dom.
