New IHG ‘Accelerate’ Promotion and Hotel Category Changes for 2019

IHG announced it’s hotel category changes and the new Accelerate promotion in the last few days. Let’s check the details.

IHG Accelerate Offers – Free Nights. Faster

The offers for Q1 2019 are now called “Free Nights. Faster”. As an IHG Rewards Club member you can earn at least 40,000 bonus points by staying at any of our 5,500+ hotels around the world from January 15 to April 15. Register now, before March 15, to start earning toward free nights today.

Offers will once again vary for everyone, but you will be able to earn at least 40,000 bonus points. After you log in and register, you will see your own offer.

IHG 2019 Point Changes Summary

IGHG announced annual changes to categories for its hotels. The changes that will go into effect on January 14, 2019, can be found here. There’s a total of 696 IHG properties in total will be changing category this year, and once again, most of them are getting more expensive. About 82% off hotels that are changing categories, are moving up. There’s 570 properties are increasing in price and only 126 properties that are decreasing in price.

As for the free night certificates that are capped at 40,000 points per night, we find that 38 properties will no longer be eligible, and just 1 hotel is newly available to book at 40K.
