IHG Rewards Club seems to have settled into gamified loyalty program promotions. Over the past couple of years they have held a number of different promos before finally settling on the name Accelerate. During Accelerate you receive a targeted set of tasks and earn bonus points for completing them. Fun!

If you like Accelerate then you will be pleased to find out that the promotion is coming back for a return in 2017. Via Rapid Travel Chai, the 2017 offer is good for stays from January 1 – April 15, 2017. Let’s take a look at what they offered me and my family.

My Wife’s Offer

Both my wife and my son received the same terrible offer. We won’t be going out of our way to complete this one.

As you can see this offer isn’t very good nor does it contain bonus offers either. Pass.

My Offer

My offer isn’t the best, but it is certainly better than what my wife and son received.

I’m still not sure this is actually worth doing, but if we had plans that coincided with it then it might be a possibility. If we ignore the 5 nights part of the deal, I could earn just over 40,000 points for three 1 night stays at different brands including one stay in a big city.

Conclusion

I think we will probably be sitting out Accelerate in Q1 2017, however we do have a trip to Europe in early April to an area where IHG is strong. Either way, some people will get good offers and some bad ones. It always pays to look and see if it makes sense to switch your loyalty for the quarter.

    Finally got a *truly* good one (although work travel has allowed me to maximize a couple others).
    Mine is 4 items:

    1) Book and stay once – 5k
    2) Stay More, Earn More – 10k
    3) Spend on you IHG card (paid stay on card) – 1.5k
    4) Points purchase (looks like any number?) – 1k

    Complete 3 of 4 offers – 22.5k
    Same lousy 1k Jan bonus offer.

    So…..a single night + buy 1k points nets me 30-31k bonus. Bet I can do that for ~$100. Pretty sweet, IMO.

  3. I got a pretty good one. Basically 2 separate stay/nights at holiday Inn Express will net me approximately 30k. Extra 3 nights will get me 20k more.
