IHG Rewards Member Rate Discount
Following in the footsteps of other hotel brands like Hilton and Hyatt, IHG has announced today that they will soon begin offering members only exclusive rates. The new program will be called “Your Rate by IHG Rewards Club” and will provide these exclusive rates when IHG Rewards members book directly with the company.
While an exact launch date has not been announced, these exclusive rates will launch at IHG hotels in American and Europe this month before being rolled out to Asia, the Middle East, Africa and China sometime later in the year. According to IHG, “The new member benefit will be tailored to reflect the local dynamic in individual regions and markets.”
How to Get Exclusive Rates
According to the press release, you will be eligible for these exclusive rates when booking via:
- IHG branded websites
- the IHG app
- IHG global call centers
- Select travel partners on behalf of IHG Rewards Club through eligible channels.
My Thoughts
I think this is a good move by IHG in reaction to similar moves by their competition. Hotel companies often pay 10% commissions to travel agents, so they have some wiggle room in the rates to attract customers to book direct. That in turn drives more brand loyalty and quite honestly keeps customers from comparison shopping. Of course, readers of Miles to Memories know to ALWAYS compare hotel rates.
Conclusion
This move isn’t really a surprise, but I will be interested to see how this discount is rolled out, how much savings members will get and how it will vary by region. Only time will tell I guess. For more information about this announcement, see the official press release.

I booked using this rate in California on Monday and in the UK on Tuesday, before I received the email announcing it.
Got an email on this topic today, checked an example rate and it was a savings of 2% for both an account with no elite status and an IHG Plat account.
That is a bit weak, but I’m sure they will tweak it. Or at least I hope it is better in some cases.
It has already rolled out. Last week I booked a Holiday Inn in Paris on the IHG website using this rate.
Yeah they have been testing it on select hotels and in some markets, but this was their formal announcement that it will become permanent and rollout worldwide. How much did you save by using it?
About 5 percent.
