JetBlue Partnership with Etihad Airways

JetBlue and Etihad Airways announced this week a partnership expansion to allow travelers to earn reciprocal loyalty benefits when flying either airline.

The two airline has partnered since 2014, but only for a codeshare arrangement which allows guests to book seamless connections between the two carriers. Now travelers will be able to earn and redeem points in each loyalty program. That means booking Etihad flights with TrueBlue points and vice-versa.

“As a successful partner since 2014, we are excited to introduce loyalty benefits as part of our codeshare partnership with Etihad,” said Christopher Buckner, vice president of loyalty and partnerships at JetBlue, said in the press release. “This partnership extension delivers both JetBlue TrueBlue and Etihad Guest members more ways to earn and redeem on travel, making exploring either airline’s network of top global destinations even more rewarding.”

The expanded agreement comes as JetBlue refreshed its own TrueBlue loyalty program last year. The airline also had to end its agreement with American Airlines and abandon a planned merger with Spirit Airlines.

On the other hand, Etihad recently launched direct service connecting Abu Dhabi and Boston, as well as introducing is popular A380 in the the New York route. The jet, which was set to retire during the pandemic, features The Residence, a three-room first class suite.

  1. DDG, recently Etihad announced that points expiration would only be suspended if a flight was credited to one’s Etihad account. No longer will bank point transfers qualify to extend expiration. Will a paid Jet Blue flight (or AA, etc.) credited to one’s Etihad account satisfy this requirement. Thanks.
