Lawsuit Filed Against Zoom Over Data Sharing

A lawsuit has been filed against Zoom Video Communications by a user who claims that the company disclosed personal information to Facebook. This was revealed in a report last month.

Zoom claims to keeping users’ information private, but its inadequate security has resulted in unauthorized disclosure of personal information to third-parties such as Facebook, the plaintiff Robert Cullen says. Based on that Vice report, Zoom gives Facebook information such as the type of device they are using, what time zone they are connecting from, which phone carrier they are using, as well as a unique advertiser identifier.

The class action lawsuit says that users would not have signed up for Zoom’s conferencing services if they had known the company used inadequate security measures as well as permit third-parties to access information,.

Zoom also publicly admitted the issue. It also released a new version of their app which allegedly has fixed the problem. However, Cullen argues that the harm to him and other putative Class Members has already been done.

  1. LOL “would not have signed up for Zoom’s conferencing services if they had known”?
BS. If your boss tells you to use Zoom, you’re using zoom…

Another dude that wants money for nothing.

  2. It will be interesting to hear the damages of the claimant. What exactly happened to him that was negative? Can’t wait for that.
