Lufthansa Now Offers ‘Return Flight Guarantee’
Lufthansa is suffering during the pandemic, like many other airlines. It reached a deal for billions in bailout money from the German government. But the airline still needs people to fly and is looking to attract customers with a new guarantee.
People are still reluctant to fly, although we have seen an increase recently in air travel. Back in March, when the coronavirus pandemic first started causing havoc on travel worldwide, many German nationals for example were stranded abroad. The German government spent over $60 million in a deal with commercial airlines, to bring back around 240,000 people. But now German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has announced that Germany would not carry out repatriation flights this summer, as it did at the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, DW reports.
So Lufthansa is introducing a “homecoming guarantee” for any German resident it flies abroad, its CEO said in an interview Sunday. “We are aware of this, which is why we are introducing a homecoming guarantee. Whoever wants to return to Germany, we will bring back,” Lufthansa Chief Executive Carsten Spohr told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
Many countries are already seeing decreasing numbers of cases and casualties due to the pandemic. But still, the pandemic is getting worse worldwide. More than 136,000 cases of the novel coronavirus were reported to the World Health Organization on Sunday. That’s the most reported in a single day so far during the pandemic. Nearly 75 per cent of Sunday’s cases originated from 10 countries, mostly in the Americas and South Asia.

Lufthansa can go to hell!! They still have not refunded my tickets from USA to Italy for March which they canceled. I’ll nevet fly this s'”&$ airline again holding my money with no response.
I don’t know how they can guarantee a flight that may violate a nation’s border control rules in the event of a no-fly list to certain countries. If you go to X and they shut off flights between X and Germany, you are still SOL.
The guarantee probably doesn’t come with a timeline. Never trust a marketing gimmick that comes with fine lines.

Lufthansa’s guarantee holds little value when they are still not providing refunds for their cancelled flights.
