Marriott Bonvoy Grants Soft Landing for Elites

Marriott Bonvoy will once again give elite members soft landing if they did not requalify for their Marriott Bonvoy elite status in 2023. That means that Elite members who did not re-achieve their existing Elite status in 2023 will be downgraded only one Elite tier.

So even if you were unable to keep your status for next year, you will still enjoy some Elite benefits.

The qualification period for Marriott Bonvoy elite status is based on calendar year. Members who achieved their existing Elite status again in 2023 will have their current status renewed through February 2025. Members who did not re-achieve their existing Elite status in 2023 will be downgraded starting in March 2024 and can enjoy that Elite status through February 2025.

The the soft landing works as follows:

  • Ambassador members will be downgraded to Titanium status.
  • Titanium members will be downgraded to Platinum status.
  • Platinum members will be downgraded to Gold status.
  • Gold members will be downgraded to Silver status.

This is valuable especially for Ambassador and Titanium members who will drop to Titanium and Platinum respectively. They can still enjoy some popular benefits such as free breakfast and lounge access for example.
