Marriott Will Get Rid of Travel-Size Toiletries in All Its Hotel Rooms

In an effort to be more eco-friendly, Marriott announced this week it will no longer provide single-use, travel-sized toiletry bottles in hotel rooms.

In a press release Tuesday, Marriott revealed that it has already started placing larger bottles at about 1,000 properties in North America, and now expects most of its other hotels to make the switch by December 2020.

When fully implemented across the globe, Marriott International’s expanded toiletry program is expected to prevent about 500 million tiny bottles annually from going to landfills; that’s about 1.7 million pounds of plastic, a 30 percent annual reduction from current amenity plastic usage.

Marriott found that one large, pump-top bottle contains the same amount of product as a dozen single-use bottles. It also reports positive feedback from guests at the the 1,000 properties who have already made the switch, the release notes.

The the eco-friendly initiative will cover five of Marriott International’s brands: Courtyard by Marriott, SpringHill Suites, Residence Inn, Fairfield by Marriott and TownePlace Suites.

Aloft Hotels, Element by Westin, Four Points and Moxy Hotels have already implemented the new concept and AC by Marriott will be following suit shortly.

Tuesday’s announcement is an expansion of a 2018 initiative by the hotel group to switch out travel-sized containers in nearly 450 select-service hotels, which took place in January of that year.

  1. Bonvoyed by Arne & the cheap bastards! If they really wanted to save the planet they would have individual (& sterile) toiletry bottles in bio-degradable bottles. These might be fine for a Fairfield, but not for a St. Regis. 1 more reason I have taken my multi-yr Platinum SPG and Platinum Marriott status over to Hiltons, Hyatts, and Fairmonts.
