Match Hyatt Status To MGM Rewards
Last year MGM Resorts announced a lot of changes to their players club rewards program including a name change to MGM Rewards. Along with the name change, MGM announced some new perks for elite status members in the new MGM Rewards program. The really cool thing is with the World of Hyatt and MGM Rewards partnership Hyatt loyalists can earn some of the great new perks without spending any money in the casino. It is very easy to match Hyatt status to MGM Rewards status and get many of the great new perks. In this article I will show you just how to do it to ensure your next trip to Vegas, or any other MGM property, is as good as it can be.
Update 2/2/23: Your MGM Rewards status from 2022 should have dropped off now so be sure to match your World of Hyatt status to MGM Rewards.
The Benefits of Matching World of Hyatt Status to MGM Rewards
Here is what status level you can get for matching your World of Hyatt status over to the MGM Rewards program:
- Hyatt Discoverist status – matches to – MGM Rewards Pearl status
- Explorist status – matches to – MGM Rewards Gold status
- Hyatt Globalist status – matches to – MGM Rewards Gold status
In the early days of the Hyatt and MGM partnership Globalist (Diamond back then) members in the World of Hyatt program would get Platinum status with MGM. Unfortunately, after that first year MGM changed it so that the best status you can get via the partnership is Gold status. But, with the recent changes in the MGM Rewards program Gold status is all of a sudden pretty good. Especially when you don’t have to spend any money to get it!

Here are the perks for each tier of the MGM Rewards program that you can match to.

Complete The Status Match In Just A Few Clicks
Before we even get started on matching your Hyatt status to MGM Rewards we should ensure one thing, that you already have an account with MGM. If you do not have an MGM Rewards account then sign up for one HERE.
Once we have that all squared away matching your status between the programs is pretty easy. It is all done online and will only take you a few minutes. Just be sure that you are not already logged into your MGM Rewards account when completing the match. It caused an error for me when that happened.

Matching MGM Rewards To Hyatt Status
What about if you are a gambler and want to earn status with the World of Hyatt program for an upcoming trip? First off, great choice! Hyatt is a great chain and a very rewarding program. Because of the partnership you can match your MGM status back over to Hyatt as well. The match is a reverse of what is listed above:
- Pearl status to Hyatt Discoverist
- Gold / Platinum / Noir status to Hyatt Explorist
To match your M life Rewards tier to World of Hyatt just login to your M life Rewards account and click the Opt-In button on this page.
Final Thoughts
It is really that simple. With just a few clicks you can be on your way to champagne and caviar dreams on your next Vegas trip. Well, maybe that is overselling it a bit. How does waived resort fees and free show tickets sound instead? It doesn’t sound too bad, does it? Especially when it didn’t cost you any time, or money, at the tables or slot machines.
If you are going to be losing your World of Hyatt status at any point in the near future you can use the match between the programs to keep it alive as well. Although, with the addition of Milestones to the Hyatt program the match that way isn’t as lucrative as it used to be.

Using MGM’s link to opt in with Hyatt has been glitchy on 2/1 and 2/2 in 2023. Hyatt’s link to opt in with MGM still works with instant status matching.

Thanks for the link, it’s working for me.
Somehow I stayed Gold but definitely didn’t think I had enough credits, I am usually Pearl without the match. So I guess I’m good, just hoping it’s real and doesn’t go away in March lol
thank you for the step-by-step walkthrough of this, very helpful
Anyone been successful matching status from Hyatt to mgm rewards in 2023? The status match link just takes you to my account page at Hyatt
I’m new to this so hopefully not a dumb question. Currently have the mlife cc but I am trying to get to Gold status without having save up all the points. If i sign up for the Hyatt card then match Mlife will I be moved to gold or is there anther way to do that?
The Hyatt card doesn’t give you high enough status to get gold you would get Pearl status with the match unfortunately. If you grabbed the Wyndham Business Earner card that comes to Wyndham Diamond status you could then match it to Caesars Diamond. Then once you have that you could match it to MGM Rewards Gold in person at a casino. That is the only way I can think of getting it via a credit card sign up.
thanks easy match!
Can you explain the process for FHR? I book on FHR and add my MLife # there? Then add Hyatt at check-in? Do I prepay thru FHR or at hotel? Thanks!
FHR bills you up front. We still don’t know if FHR stays will get waived resort fees or not. In the past you would have them add your Hyatt number at check in so you could earn elite credit.
Two questions:
1) how long does it take Hyatt to update your status once you click through the opt-in?
2) how does Hyatt determine expiration of the status match? Based on expiration with MGM, or their own rules?
It should be updated within a week or so, maybe faster. You would get it until February of the following year. So match this year get it until 2/2023. It is based on their status year which always ends in Feb of the following year.
So you are saying that if I book through MGM I get waived resort fees, but do I also get Hyatt stay credit? I thought Hyatt only provided stay credit when you booked direct through Hyatt?
You should be able to add your Hyatt number at check in
Right, but doesn’t require you to book through the Hyatt website in order to get stay credit with Hyatt. In order to avoid resort fees I have to book through MGM’s website. So my question stands, can I book through MGM website, add my Hyatt # AND get Hyatt stay credit towards status?
Yes if you add your Hyatt number to the reservation at check in you should get elite night credit. You can always file a claim with Hyatt if you don’t as well.
I currently have MLife credit card that I use for booking Vegas trips. Should I apply for and start using a World of Hyatt credit card instead?
If you think you would stay at Hyatt hotels outside of Vegas I would look into it. If you focus on mostly Vegas trips then I think you are okay with what you have.
Does one need to create a brand new MGM account or it will
be transferred from M Life account? Thanks!
It will be rebranded automatically
[…] How To Avoid Resort Fees At MGM Resorts With World of Hyatt Status Match […]
Might be worth noting that per Gary/VTFW, “And if you redeem Hyatt points for your stay you will not have your resort fee waived.”
Had a typo… VFTW
Added a bit in there about what doesn’t count.
With the free concert information lacking details, the only benefit of substance is no resort fees. Toss in the difficulty in getting value out of comps and the time involved to walk next door if you want a change of luck or scenery and the only reason I can see to stay there is (ironically) I don’t want to gamble.
It sounds like the tickets will be YMMV by account per the terms I was looking at last night so may be nothing for matched status or a poor selection. Only time will tell for sure.
It does state that you need to book directly through MGM to get the waived resort fees according to what I’m reading so, if you book with Hyatt points they may not honor. Just a head’s up.
That is true. Although Hyatt points rarely offer good value in Vegas so shouldn’t be a problem most of the time.
if I am already Gold and Explorist, does it matter to match now or should I wait until one of them expires?
Wait till one expires
Mark do you know the expiry timing? I thought my MLife/Rewards would expire at the end of January, but it doesn’t appear to have done so. I’m trying to figure out the timing to keep the hamster wheel moving with these two.
It got pushed out to February this year because of Covid and the new launch. Most people’s status dropped down yesterday.
I’m interested to see if Gold will still get free valet. That might be a major cut that I didn’t use but it could affect people who did use it. And this was one of the very few benefits that Mlife did offer.
As if we didn’t have enough Globalists already! By this time next year, everyone and their sister/brother will be a Globlaists with the cheap $25/night fares at dumpy MGM properties in Las Vegas.
The Vegas mattress run just got a lot cheaper for sure.
Can you book thru Hyatt directly or does it have to be with MGM to get the waived fee and qualifying night credit
Has to be through MGM. Booking through Hyatt is considered 3rd party unfortunately.
