Amex to Hilton Transfer Bonus

Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors Transfer Bonus

American Express has a new transfer bonus to Hilton Honors points. This is an okay deal for those with a redemption in mind, but it depends what kind of value you would get for the booking. The bonus is possibly targeted, so not everyone will see it in their accounts.

If eligible, you will be able to redeem Membership Rewards Points by transferring them to Hilton Honors Points at a ratio of up to 1:2.6 Points. The regular transfer ratio is 1:2, and this is a boost of 30%. This offer offer is available through September 30, 2024.

How to Transfer Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors

American Express makes transferring Membership Rewards to their partners easy. To transfer your points, simply go to the Membership Rewards transfer page, and login to your Membership Rewards account. You will see all of the transfer partners listed and the Hilton Honors 30% transfer bonus will show for those who are targeted.

Keep in mind that you will need to link your Hilton account before you can transfer points and the minimum you can transfer is 1,000 points.

Analysis

To decide whether this is a good deal or not, we first need to look at the value of each currency. membership Rewards points are flexible and can be redeemed in many ways. That versatility makes them pretty valuable. I would say at least 1.6 cents per point.

Hilton Points are valued around .4 cents a piece. Lets do the math on the transfer, using these values, and add in the 30% bonus.

1000 MR Points * .016 = $16 (Minimum)

vs.

2,600 Hilton Points * .004 = $10.40

As you can see, you are not getting close to that average value of Membership Rewards points. But keep in mind that these are subjective valuation and you can definitely do better or worse depending on your specific use. Often, you’ll get a much better value for your points when redeeming Hilton points for a 5 nights stay with the fifth night free.

Conclusion

This is a decent deal for anyone who was planning on using Hilton points for a specific redemption, and just need a bit more to top up their account.

With that said, this is not the best use of Membership Rewards points, so definitely do not transfer points speculatively. Plus we have seen transfer bonuses as high as a 50% in the past.
