MGM Signs Agreement for Integrated Resort in Osaka, Japan

MGM Resorts International today announced that Osaka IR Corporation, a joint venture with ORIX Corporation established to develop the Osaka IR Project, signed an agreement with Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City to implement the Specified Integrated Resort Facilities Area Development Plan for Yumeshima, Osaka.

That’s another step forward for the new MGM casino-resort in Japan.

MGM and ORIX, together with Osaka IR Corporation, said in a statement that the project will “contribute to the sustainable growth and development of tourism and the economy of Osaka and the Kansai region, as well as Japan through this first-of its-kind project in Japan.”

Plans for an Osaka resort were first announced back in 2021. The Japanese government in April certified the development plan for the resort, which is expected to open in 2029 as one of the nation’s first casinos.

The development promises to transform the region into one of the world’s top entertainment and hospitality destinations and to serve as a hub for tourism across Japan. Along with a casino, the resort will feature hotels, a conference center, a shopping center, and a theater.
