MGM Resorts Parking Charges Information & Launch Date
A few months ago I covered the stunning announcement that MGM Resorts International would begin to charge for parking at almost all of their Las Vegas properties. (Self parking at Circus Circus will still be free.) The timeline initially called for parking charges to start in April, but that didn’t happen. Now, MGM Resorts has announced when the new parking program will be implemented, how much they will charge and who will be exempt.

Thoughts & Analysis
It is nice to see that all but the very basic tier of Mlife will get free self parking. Gold and higher will get free Valet parking as well. That means anyone with Hyatt Platinum or higher will be able to match to an Mlife tier that will give you free parking.
It is obvious that MGM Resorts wants to try to minimize the backlash and thus locals will get free parking through the end of the year. While it isn’t mentioned specifically, after 12/29/2016 locals will most likely pay the same rates as everyone else for parking. Of course, who knows how long rates will stay at this level. Things tend to get more expensive. Ya know?

Thankfully most “travel hackers” can avoid it by being a Hyatt elite, but the truth is that if this is successful, we probably will see most/all other properties on the Strip move towards charging. Like with resort fees, it is a slippery slope and just another reminder that Vegas keeps getting more expensive. With that said, people keep coming so……
