Miles to Memories Update
I started writing Miles to Memories full time over 3 years ago. It took some time, but eventually I was able to get some traction for the blog, move it to BoardingArea and yes, make it my “actual job”. Well, one of my actual jobs.
After meeting Greg The Frequent Miler at a 2014 FTU event in Seattle and then again at a BoardingArea conference later in that year, I traded periodic emails with him about various deals. Then, on the day after Christmas in 2014, Greg sent me a confusing email. He said that he was getting ready to hire someone. He then asked if I was interested, saying “We often post the same things around the same time.” I didn’t know if he was offering me a job or if he was accusing me of plagiarism! 🙂
Eventually he clarified and confirmed that he was indeed offering me a position at Frequent Miler. I wanted to accept, but there was one issue. I had spent more than a year building Miles to Memories and it was growing rapidly. I wasn’t willing to give up this site, but was definitely willing to work with Greg. We made a deal.
I accepted my Senior Editor position just over two years ago. Over that time I published hundreds of deals, studied credit cards, maintained a best offers list and wrote a number of in-depth resources. With mixed emotions, I published my last post at Frequent Miler on Sunday.
Over the past two years I have learned that Greg not only has a brilliant mind, but that he is an amazing human being. I truly consider him to be a friend. Thus, it was hard when last month I had to let him know that it was time to move on.
A New Addition & Moving Forward
Since starting my double life working on both FM & MtM, life has grown busier and busier. I started a successful reselling business, Miles to Memories the site and its related Facebook groups have continued to grow, and most importantly my family has grown as well. I was simply being ripped in too many directions.
Now that I have made these big changes I can focus my full attention on making this blog better. My first move in that direction is the addition of a writer. Danny, the author of Danny the Deal Guru will be stepping in to publish about various deals that pop up. In much the same way that Greg supported my decision to keep Miles to Memories, I am excited that Danny will continue to work on his blog as well. (Of which I am a HUGE fan!)
With Danny writing about deals, I plan to focus more on creating detailed & in-depth content including beginner’s guides, loyalty program guides, credit card reviews and more. The ultimate goal of this site is to help readers maximize loyalty programs to travel farther, better and for less. I think I have been successful in doing that for years and believe these changes are a positive move towards taking the next steps in that mission.
Thanks for your support and readership.

Congrats, Shawn! I’m so incredibly impressed with how far M2M has come in such a short time, and it’s been an honor to work with you at FM.
