My 5 Favorite Posts Of 2018

As the year comes to an end I thought it would be fun to take a minute and reflect on this past year.  It has been a big one here at Miles to Memories, the busiest one in the site’s history.  It has also been a busy one for myself too as I have tried to navigate sharing my thoughts about miles and points with all of you.  I wanted to give everyone my deepest thanks for welcoming me into the blogosphere, sharing your ideas with me, and reading my work.  Having said that I put a list together of my 5 favorite posts from 2018.  These are posts I wrote that stuck out to me throughout the year.

The List

These are no way in order and it was difficult to narrow it down to 5.  Mainly because it is hard to remember what I wrote last week much less 12 months ago.

The American Express Hilton Aspire is HANDS DOWN the Most Valuable Premium Card on the Market!

I spilled a lot of digital ink on the Aspire card this year because it is such an amazing product.  I still think it is the best perks card out there today and I honestly can’t believe American Express hasn’t announced changes to it yet.  It just seems too good to be true…knock on wood!

The “Dark Side” of the Southwest Companion Pass

It is amazing what the power of “free” has over us.  We will sometimes make irrational decisions because of free offers.  I think the Companion Pass falls into this category.  People will go out of their way to use it, including taking on extra connections and costing themselves more time. I think it is important to objectively ask yourself if it is truly worth it versus simply booking the companion pass every single time on Southwest.

Are There Issues with The Plastic Merchant?

The Plastic Merchant going insolvent was some of, if not the, biggest news in the miles and points world in 2018. There were a lot of people that used TPM to rack up bonus points or complete minimum spend.  Many people were left holding the bag for 10’s of thousands of dollars when it was all said and done.  We were the first blog to cover the issues and broke the news of it in the hopes to help our readers mitigate their losses.  I sincerely hope we were able to help in some small way with this disaster.

Are Staycations Grossly Overlooked in This Hobby? I’ll Give You 5 Reasons Why They Are

I love Staycations and I think they are sadly looked down upon in this hobby.  Packing up the car and heading a few hours “up north” are some of my favorite childhood memories.  I am glad I am able to share the same things with my family.  I am even able to use miles and points to help offset the cost.  Don’t overlook your own backyard in 2019!

5 Ways to Save Money on Food at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar

This was one of my most useful posts of the year, in my opinion.  I enjoy posts like this that can help people save money at a popular place.  I wrote a similar list for saving money on drinks while at Baha Mar.  And I did a similar affordable restaurants list for Las Vegas.  I hope to do more of these type of posts in 2019.

Conclusion

These were my favorites from 2018. Let me know if you think I missed any or what your favorite post of the year was, no matter where it came from.  Here is to hoping 2019 is an even better year!
