Thanks for the tip! I found a few buy 2 get 3rd night free options for Chicago in August. I booked a 2 queen bed room at the Talbott Hotel, a Joie de Vivre brand, near Magnificent Mile for $450 including taxes and the silly “destination fee.” I like that no deposit is required, and it can be cancelled up until 24 hours before checkin. It is going to save me about $200 over what I had previously booked!
