New Marriott Status Challenge for Gold and Platinum Status

Earlier this week, God Save the Points reported a new Marriott Status Challenge was available to Marriott members. Members can call Marriott (801-468-4000) or SPG (888-625-4988) and enroll in the challenge to earn Gold or Platinum Status.

Status Challenge Requirements

  • Earn Marriott Gold after staying 8 nights in 90 days
  • Earn Marriott Platinum after staying 16 nights in 90 days

***Members may only participate in one status challenge every 3 years, so you should make sure you are able complete the challenge before enrolling.

Thoughts

This is a great promo since similar challenges offered in the past required an extra 2 nights for Platinum. Unfortunately like everything Marriott nowadays, there appear to be some execution issues with this promotion. Nick at Frequent Miler covered some inconsistencies in the information provided by Marriott and SPG agents including agents who aren’t even aware that the promotion exists. Nick suggests the HUCA approach. It is also unclear whether reward stays will count towards your nights and whether you have until the end of the year or 90 days. It can’t hurt to wait until you have your upcoming stay to register.

  1. I would wait until you have confirmation from two different Marriott employees that award stays will count. You have a little time before you start the clock so why don’t you check in in 3 weeks or so and I’ll let you know if there’s been any further clarification 🙂

  2. Hi, I have 10 AWARD nights booked at a courtyard from Dec 25-Jan 5. Should I assume these will count & register now & get 6 more stays in or register b4 I leave & wait until I get back to see if those counted b4 booking more stays?

    Thanks for the help!

  3. does Marriott award the benefits of the status during the 90 day period or only after the challenge goal is obtained?

  4. I know you’re referring to the title and I know fewer days would be correct but I thought less was better here bc it sounds better and I didn’t mean on my days… value, points, time and money as well
