Amex Going to Continue Issuing the SPG Card & Will the Bonus Increase?

In the last few weeks there’s been some rumors that the personal Amex SPG card will be gone after the new Marriott loyalty program kicks off in August. The signup bonus for both Amex SPG cards was lowered today to just a measly $200 statement credit. But, tonight I received an email from Marriott’s communications team on behalf of the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Cards from American Express which gives us some suprisning information.

I was told that the SPG Amex Consumer (personal) Card will live and on top of that there will be “very rich” bonuses in the coming weeks.

Here’s the email:

We wanted to apologize for any miscommunication / misinformation you may have received in the past. We want to confirm that the SPG Amex Consumer (personal) Card will, in fact, continue to be issued after August 1, along with the business Card. Additionally, there will be a very rich sign-up bonus coming in the coming weeks (different than the $200 statement credit you saw today). Have no fear!

Conclusion

This is great news if it turns out to be true. The source looks reliable and is connected to Marriott. If you missed out on the 25,000 or better bonuses on the SPG cards, then you should soon have another chance. Both cards will be refreshed in August, and I covered those changes yesterday.

  1. True. Like robust being a big fast bust.

I, for one, am well past the “fear” stage of Marriott’s hot mess of Starwood.

  2. “Very rich”? Well, that’s rich, but not in the way they meant. Another bad deal from Marriott. I wish I could say I’m surprised. It would be so refreshing if they just said “We don’t want your business. Try another hotel chain.” Instead, they weasel around. It’s sad.
