Largest Phone/Internet Providers Extend Coronavirus Relief till June

The nations largest phone and internet providers are offering customers some relief during the coronavirus pandemic. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Comcast have said they will not charge any late fees or terminate accounts for non-payments until June 30th. This was previously offered through mid-May.

Staying connected during the pandemic, while most people are stuck at home, is important. You need these services for work and socializing. But with many people unemployed, or earning less while working from home, keeping up with bills is not always easy.

Verizon said Monday it had extended their offers not to terminate service nor charge late fees to customers who are struggling with their monthly bills because of the coronavirus pandemic. AT&T and Comcast said they would also extend the policy through June 30. T-Mobile, which now also owns Sprint, says its offer has also been extended through June 30. But Sprint says it has waived fees for “60 days,” and it is not clear when the 60 days are up, USA Today reports.

This is part of FCC’s “Keep Americans Connected Pledge“. In order to ensure that Americans do not lose their broadband or telephone connectivity as a result of these exceptional circumstances, the FCC has asked broadband and telephone service providers, and trade associations, to take the Keep Americans Connected Pledge. So far, more than 700 companies and associations have signed the pledge.

You should still check with your phone company if you are having trouble paying the bills.  While you will not be charged fees or have service terminated until June 30, policies might vary on what happens once the grace period is over. You could be required to pay your whole balance in full in order to keep your service. And that could be a big bill to absorbe at once.

If you can continue to pay your bills, is better to just do so. You can also ask and see if they have any type of discounts. There are services that will do this for you, such as Bill Fixers, Trim and more.
