Chase Sapphire Preferred No Longer Earning 3X on Plastiq
For many people, it is getting harder and harder to generate the spend needed to satisfy the requirements for bonuses on various cards. It’s also harder to find ways to increase spending in order to earn more credit card rewards. For these reasons many have turned towards fee based services like Plastiq.
Plastiq charges a fee for payment made with a credit card. But it still makes sense in some cases to pay that fee. That’s either because you are earning even more in rewards or just because it’s an easy way to generate spend.
One card that makes sense to use through Plastiq is Chase Ink Preferred. It has been earning 3X on payments made through the platform but that seems to have stopped in the last few days. The datapoint comes from out Facebook group. I looked more into is and it’s likely that payments made since 8/16 are no longer coding as 3X.
Conclusion
Many people have bills, rent, expenses, mortgages etc. that they can pay through Plastiq. Being able to earn some extra points for doing so, it’s a big deal. Sadly Chase Ink Preferred seems to no longer be an option. This has happened in the pas though, so it could make a comeback.
Let us know if you have any recent datapoints with Plastiq and CIP, so we can get a better idea.

Damn you thepointsguy for posting about this and ruining it for us all.
to be fair, this time was millionmilesecrets that ruined it for all. so never going back to that site again…ever since Darius sold it to bankrate the site has been on a downward trend.
Ditto!
1 week of Tesla posts and tweets…!
Confirmed. 8/14 charge was still given 3x, but 8/16 charges wasn’t. Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks Al!
Definitely had to be recent. Posted 3x on 8/11 $500 payment, 1500 UR

I immediately thought of the Tesla article too.
I just got my CIP last week. Oh the timing.
Once that article about a guy buying a $60,000 Tesla with CIP + Plastiq combo came out it was only a matter of time. Darn, had a bill to pay in just two days 🙁
When I saw that stupid story I thought the same thing. I am fairly new to Plastiq and used it to pay some business vendors. Now its pretty much DOA because it is not worth it for me to pay 2.5% since they cant use Amex (for example) It didnt take long. I think Plastiq is going to need a different business model. At 2.5% and all the restrictions what they seem to have its pretty limited.
seriously! i was furious that article got published. this has been an open secret, but it’s one thing that it’s well known within the miles & points community vs. putting it on mainstream media.
