Plastiq Says It Will Accept Amex Credit Cards

Plastiq had long been a popular option to increase credit card spending from the comfort of your home. This is a service that lets you pay your mortgage or a service with a credit card, even though you can not do so directly. Obviously that convenience comes with a fee, which usually is more than the rewards you would get from your card. But it can still be useful for welcome bonuses.

Earlier this year Plastiq started having problems. It first stopped accepting American Express credit cards in February, citing operational issues. Then payments were delayed and finally in May Plastiq filed for bankruptcy.

A few months later Priority Technology Holdings completed the acquisition of Plastiq on August 1, 2023, with the approval of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

Since then Plastiq is up and running again. This week, the company sent out an email, informing users of the completion of the acquisition. The email reveals a new name, which is now “Plastiq, powered by Priority”. But the email also sys that American Express credit cards will soon be accepted again.

Here’s the relevant part of the email:

This acquisition means great things for our customer base, including faster delivery options and paying with AMEX. Be on the lookout for those launches in the next couple weeks.

That’s all the information that was shared for now. So we do not know when this will happen exactly and what categories will be supported. Amex had already limited payments through Plastiq to just a few categories such as utilities, rent, education and some other services.
