Playa Hotels & Resorts Offers Complimentary Onsite Covid Testing

Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that it will begin requiring all U.S.-bound air travelers to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of departure. The new rules kick in on January 26. Airlines have already offered to waive fare difference for those that need to change international flights due to this new requirement.

Now Playa Hotels & Resorts has announced that it will offer complimentary COVID-19 antigen testing to registered guests returning to the U.S. from any of its 17 resorts throughout Mexico and the Caribbean. That makes it easier that going out on your own to find a testing site and provide all the required documentation.

All Playa properties will provide free on-site antigen testing and discounted PCR tests from January 22 through April 30, 2021, for guests staying at least three nights in Mexico and the Dominican Republic and five or more nights in Jamaica. 1. @Mike Saint-no, since the CDC recommends NOT taking another PCR test for 90 days since remaining RNA could come back, taking another one so soon after the quarantine wouldn’t do any good (e.g. still positive results). Hence, they say negative test or proof of recovery. Assuming you are symptom free after 10/14 days, you can resume. This is what schools and jobs/companies are following for employees. What I don’t believe have been established and detailed is what constitutes proof of recovery…will it be a positive antibody test stating that you had it (I find that hard to believe since most people don’t get blood work) or something else, like a previously administered antigen or PCR test.

For this new policy, has the CDC said/clarified if passengers can show proof of a negative antigen test OR PCR? If it’s just antigen, then I guess the only reason to then take the more precise PCR is if you get a false positive first and then need to doublecheck with more accurate results.

  2. PROACTIVE!! Good thinking by management to reduce stress levels for potential visitors. It is so obvious, that I am actually disappointed by other hotel companies that whine a lot, but do nothing to help their potential clients.

  3. This is GREAT news and hope more hotels follow suit. Really smart of them. I still think many people will hold off on traveling with this restriction. For example, on the off chance that someone tested positively even if they are going for a long weekend, they would have to quarantine in that country until they came back with a negative result. Correct?
