Rakuten announced today the new Rakuten American Express® Card, exclusively for Rakuten members. The Rakuten Card is issued by First Electronic Bank and offers cardholders up to 4% Cash Back rewards with no annual fee. Let’s take a look at the details.

Rakuten Amex Card Details

  • Earn an additional 4% Cash Back on eligible Rakuten purchases (online & in-store), up to $7,000 in a calendar year, 1% Cash Back on eligible Rakuten purchases after the $7,000 cap.
  • Earn an extra 5% Cash Back on top of the 5% Cash Back at Rakuten restaurant partners.
  • Earn 2% Cash Back on Groceries and restaurants
  • Earn 1% Cash Back on all other purchases.
  • Retail Protection and Extended Warranty

Conclusion

It was three years ago when Rakuten ended its credit card program with Synchrony. It now has a new credit card and this time it runs on the American Express network, powered by  Imprint and issued by First Electronic Bank.

The card has good earning rates for Rakuten purchases, giving you an extra 4% cash back, but it is limited to $7,000 in purchases every year.

  1. That actually seems pretty compelling to me. I probably won’t grab it, given SUB opportunities otherwise, but maybe something I’ll keep in mind to pick up in the future if the details remain the same.
