Random Hilton Free Nights Posting After Downgrades

Random Hilton Free Nights Posting After Downgrades

I now have a few reports of people being issued random Hilton free night certificates today.  They all seem to revolve around someone that downgraded from an Aspire card to a Surpass card last year.  They already received their free night certificate for the $15K in spend on the card so it isn’t from that.  Here are the data points:

  • Facebook Group member Andrew
    • Downgraded from Aspire to Surpass in June
    • Annual fee / anniversary date is in June
    • Free night cert sent to him today
  • My buddy Kevin
    • Downgraded from Aspire to Surpass in May
    • Annual fee / anniversary date is in April
    • Free night sent to him today

I am not sure why this would happen.  It does seem like Amex has some IT issues going on right now.  I have a post about Dell credit issues happening right now as well upcoming.  It is likely this certificate gets pulled back once they figure out what is going on.  But only time will tell how it will play out.

If you have had any random Hilton free nights posting after downgrades today share your details in the comments below.

  1. I downgraded from Aspire to Hilton Honors card in October and received the free weekend night today as well. Already used the free night from my Aspire in September.

  2. Bank Error in your favor? Quick- let’s post on the internet about it!

Not necessarily talking about you, Mark; just the boneheads who posted it on facebook originally. If the bank gives you something extra… STFU and wait. People are idiots.

  3. Downgraded from Aspire to Hilton Honors card in early December. I received a free night certificate upon verifying my email address on Hilton website on 1/5/21; arrived overnight. Good for any day of the week for two years.

  4. I got one last year on 1/5 for no reason that I can think of and now again i woke up today to another mystery night.

  5. I did not have a Hilton Amex very come through but I somehow was issued a 3rd $50 Saks credit in 2020 and November I had 2 wireless service credits on both the Amex plat and Green card, one was pulled back for $10 but I am still waiting for Amex to claw back the other $70. Definitely seeing some issues with the Amex credit system.

  6. And I’m having issues of new Platinum Amex offers not appearing. Getting the runaround. Just spent a long time with a supervisor who is trying to get it fixed.
