Sears Mastercard Gift Card Deal
Well the Visa/MC gift card deals keep coming. Of course we have traditionally seen deals from Staples and Office Depot, but now we are seeing other retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond and now Sears jump in on the fun. Let’s take a look at the Sears Mastercard deal for this week.
The Offer
Members get a $10 Sears eAward card by mail plus $2 in Shop Your Way points on any MasterCard gift card purchase of $100 or more.
Key Terms
- Offer valid in participating stores only from 11/13-11/19/16.
- Limit one $10 eAward card per transaction
- eAward card will be emailed within 10-14 days of purchase
- eAward cards are redeemable in-store or online and do not expire
You can find the full terms in the Sears weekly ad.
Analysis
This is a pretty good deal considering you will be able to profit as long as you have use for the eAward card and the points. One strategy might be to do multiple transactions and if they will allow, use the first gift card purchase the 2nd, etc. Of course you either need a friendly cashier, multiple cashiers or multiple visits to the store. (See below for a better strategy.)
These cards are issued by US Bank and are PIN-enabled with the PIN coming in the packaging. They don’t always work well at Walmart since they tend to process as credit which requires a lightning quick response to change the tender type. They work fine at other stores though.
Get 5X/5% Too
All three of the major rotating category cards have department stores in their 4th quarter bonus. This means you can earn 5X with Chase Freedom and 5% with Citi Dividend and Discover it when purchasing these cards. Adding in the 5% earned, you end up with a final cost of $88.65 if you take the eAward card and SYWR points at face value. Not bad.
Conclusion
This is a fairly solid deal and one where a lot of people can probably max out their bonus categories on various cards. Keep in mind these Mastercard gift cards aren’t the easiest to liquidate due to their issues at Walmart, so make sure you have an exit strategy before buying too many of them.
