Shanghai Disneyland Reopening Safety Procedures
Yesterday as part of their earnings announcement, Disney released the news that Shanghai Disneyland will reopen on May 11, 2020. At this time all 12 of Disney’s theme parks are closed, so the reopening of the Shanghai park marks a small first step in Disney getting back to full operations.
Disney relies heavily on their parks to drive revenue and profits, so the focus for the company has to be to get everything back open again in a safe way. Shanghai Disneyland has announced a number of safety measures they will take to protect guests and staff when the park reopens on May 11. Let’s take a look.
Shanghai Disneyland Reopening Safety Procedures
Shanghai Disneyland is reopening with a number of changes and procedures which will have an effect on the guest experience. Let’s take a look at the Shanghai Disneyland reopening safety procedures including what guests can expect when returning to the park.
Capacity Heavily Controlled
Shanghai Disneyland has announced they will be severely limiting capacity when the park reopens on May 11. In order to accomplish this guests will be required to purchase dated tickets in advance. Annual passholders will have to make a reservation in order to visit Shanghai Disneyland. There will be no on-site ticket sales nor will general admission tickets be accepted
They Will Track Guest Information
I have visited Shanghai Disneyland 3 times and on each visit I was required to provide my passport in order to get my ticket. It seems as if they will continue to track guest information very closely, including the name, phone number and ID for each guest.
Contact Tracing Will Be Done
China his rolled out a Health QR Code app that shows whether someone is allowed to be out in public. Depending on your exposure to COVID-19 you’ll either have a red code, a yellow code or a green code. Guests of Shanghai Disneyland will be required to present a Green Health QR code in order to gain entry to the park.
Some Attractions Won’t Be Available
While the majority of Shanghai Disneyland will be reopening on May 11, 2020, some experiences won’t be coming back at this time. According to the park some interactive attractions and experiences such as children’s play areas and theater shows will remain closed. Additionally, parades and nighttime spectaculars will be cancelled for now.
To replace the traditional parade, Mickey and Friends Express (a character procession) will take place several times each day. Additionally the stunning Storybook Castle will “come to life with light and music at dusk each day.” While characters will still be seen in the park, for now close interactions with guests and photos with guests will not be done.
Additional Safety & Sanitation Measures In Place
Finally, Shanghai Disneyland is working to keep guests and staff safe by implementing increased sanitizing measures along with temperature checks upon entry. Additionally, guests will be required to wear approved face masks at all times except when dining. Disney will continue to review these measures and make adjustments as necessary.
You can read the full details of the Shanghai Disneyland reopening safety procedures in their official press release.
Same Policies for Reopening Disneyland & Walt Disney World?
Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek did indicate that these procedures would be used at the company’s other resorts when they reopen. China’s QR code health app has been somewhat controversial, but no doubt they will find ways to contact trace guests even if they have to use different methods.
The key takeaways here are that you most likely will be required to make a reservation and hold a dated ticket when Disney parks reopen in the United States. Additionally, expect temperature checks and to be wearing a mask for almost your entire visit. As expected parades and nighttime shows most likely will be cancelled here for awhile. And those princess encounters? Gone for now.
Shanghai Disneyland Reopening Safety Procedures – Bottom Line
Disney is moving into the next chapter of their existence by reopening the first of 12 parks across the globe. They’ll learn from this experience and many of these measures will certainly be in place when Disneyland and Walt Disney World emerge from months of cobwebs.

This *might* work for the Shanghai park, but I can see hillbilly yahoos (aka ignorant republican imbeciles) complaining their freedom is being taken away and refuse to comply to keep distance, wear masks, etc), something to do with patriotism, flag waving, more guns, less healthcare, god, or whatever their corrupt politicians tell than to repeat this week…
Just like the park opening in Florida last week that had to be shut down due to non-compliance to rules.
