Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Redemptions Easier With New Search Tools
Until recent updates, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer redemptions for partner awards were a bit of a headache. After recent updates, the new award search tool has improved greatly. Here’s a look at what’s new. We’ll also talk about how they could further improve it for the future.
Finished Adding Partners
Before the update, the online search tool for Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer redemptions did not include all of their partners. The partners that were built into their previous award search tool did not show all available routes. In short: things were missing. A prime example is TAP Portugal. You could not search for this Star Alliance partner through the KrisFlyer website. Now, TAP routes are available and can be searched online.
The only searches not loaded into the website at this point are domestic flights inside Japan and New Zealand. The following message shows on the Singapore / KrisFlyer award search page:
You may not see all available award flights as online redemption with our airline partners is being rolled out progressively. If you wish to redeem award tickets on domestic flights within Japan and New Zealand, or if you do not see any flights from your preferred partner airline, contact your local Singapore Airlines office.
Weekly Search View
The other tool added to the KrisFlyer award search is a weekly view. Seeing availability for multiple days at a time is a huge improvement. The default is to show you Singapore / Silk Air flights first, even when searching routes they don’t run. You’ll need to click over to “Star Alliance” or “Other Partner Airlines” to see those options. They don’t display together or default to the best option.
Recommendations For Further Improvements
There’s still room for improvements with Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer redemption searches. First, they could add filters, like showing only non-stop flights. They could add filters for preferred airlines, selecting / de-selecting layover airports, and more filters that numerous other airlines offer.
Second, they could offer redemptions on one page for easier comparisons. I understand that airlines want to spotlight their own products. They could accomplish this like American Airlines does (showing their own flights at the top of search results) or Avianca / British Airways (lower award redemption rates on their products vs. partners).
Lastly, I hate that the award search tool makes you start again from 0 if it doesn’t find any results. If I try to click forward a few days or search for a route/date with no availability, you wind up back at the beginning. A smarter search tool that remembers the cities and dates I previously typed in, so I can change just 1 variable and not re-type everything, would also be a big improvement.
Final Thoughts on Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Redemptions
It’s nice to see that the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer redemption / award search feature is moving into the 21st Century. Previously, it was quite cumbersome. It has improved massively with a weekly view and making all of their partners searchable now. It still has room to make further improvements, but this is a great leap forward. This makes Singapore Airlines / KrisFlyer even more valuable to me, since they have one of the best change/cancel fee rates of any airline.

I’d be good with anything that would make it easier to find two first class award saver seats in their suites between New York and Asia but Singapore hasn’t come up with that yet.
Yeah, until it has filters like United does, you still have to slog through it. But they’re at least better than BA searches now! Moving up the ladder.
