A Southwest Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) Tuesday with part of its left engine ripped off and a damaged window. That piece of the engine flew into and broke a window, according to passenger accounts and the pilot’s conversations with air traffic control as per WACU.
“One passenger, a woman, was partially…was drawn out towards the outside of the plane…was pulled back in by other passengers,” Todd Bauer, the father of one of the passengers said. “There was blood everywhere,” Martinez told CBSN‘s Anne-Marie Green. Details on the passenger’s condition weren’t immediately available and there wasn’t any clear information from the airline on what had happened exactly. Oxygen masks were deployed on-board and images taken after the emergency landing are scary.

A Southwest Airlines spokesperson said the Boeing 737-700 diverted “because of an operational event” but photos appeared to show engine damage.
Southwest said there were 143 passengers and five crew members onboard the Boeing 737, which was headed from New York’s LaGuardia Airport to Dallas’ Love Field. Passengers were seen walking off the plane onto the tarmac at the airport after landing around 11:20 a.m.
