Free Fuel Points at Stop&Shop/Giant with New Visa/Mastercard Gift Card Deal

Stop & Shop and Giant supermarkets have a new gift cards deal starting tomorrow that can get you great fuel savings. Let’s take a look.

The Offer

Earn 2x Gas Rewards Points when you purchase any Visa or Mastercard Gift Cards with your Stop & Shop or Giant card.

Fine print says that Mastercard Gift Cards are excluded, which is probably a typo, but it would be safer to go with Visa Gift Cards.

Key Terms

  • Offer valid 10/13/17 to 10/19/17
  • Must use your Stop&Shop/Giant card

Maximizing Offer

Gift card purchases don’t normally earn fuel points, but through this promotion, you get 2x. Make sure to use the right credit card to maximize your rewards. Amex Blue Cash Preferred will give you 6% at grocery stores and you can also get 5% with Amex Old Blue Cash.

You should purchase $500 gift cards to maximize you card rewards and fuel points.

Gas Rewards

These gas rewards used to be better, but these deals could still get you cheap gas. Every 100 points are worth $0.10 off per gallon on your fill up of up to 20 gallons. If you buy a $500 Visa gift card and you will receive 1500 points. That would be $1.50 off per gallon. Multiply that by how many gallons you can pump in one fill up, to calculate your profits. The limit is 20 gallons.

If you buy more than one gift card, you’ll obviously get more points but you can only redeem up to 1500 points per transaction in some areas, which is $1.50 off per gallon. Gas Rewards points are valid for 30 days from the day they are earned. Points can be reedemed at Stop & Shop gas stations and at participating Shell locations.

Conclusion

This is a good deal for people who drive since it get’s you very cheap or close to free gas and a small profit through credit card rewards. As mentioned above, it’s probably safer to go with Visa Gift cards only, which are easier to liquidate anyway.

Previously some locations didn’t allow gift card purchases with credit cards but it now explicitly states in the ad that they now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard and American Express gift cards.

Figure out how many points you need, and purchase accordingly. Points expire in 30 days, so don’t overspend if you can’t use them.
