Days 307-308 Thursday-Friday February 21-22, 2008 - Surfer’s Paradise, Gold Coast, Australia Theme parks, theme parks, theme parks!!! With our two very sad and depressing days...
After leaving Brisbane we suffered through two dreadful days on the Gold Coast. It was pretty much non stop rain so we stayed in our cabin in the holiday park for most of the time. It was so bad that I didn't even take any photos!
On our second day in Brisbane we visited the Queensland Museum and Art Gallery, the state library, and the Brisbane Botanical Gardens before picking up our rental car in preparation for a trip south to Australia's Gold Coast.
Our first day in Brisbane consisted of shopping for travel books, exploring Chinatown, wandering around the Queen Street Mall and enjoying the spectacular urban park known as Roma Street Parklands.
After spending a few weeks in Newcastle, we boarded a plane headed to Brisbane. Brisbane was our gateway to the entire Queensland region including the Sunshine Coast and a few other surprising locales!
After leaving Sydney, we traveled north to Newcastle for Australia Day. During our first few days in the city, we found a room to rent for a few weeks in order to rest and settle down for a bit.
Our final days in Sydney took us to the cities' iconic Opera House, Sydney Botanical Gardens and the Sydney Chinese Garden. While the weather continued to be quite poor, we made the most of it and enjoyed even more of the city that we had come to love.
Sadly the story coming from Friday and Saturday was the poor weather in Sydney. Heavy rain and clouds engulfed the city and it was all we could do to get out during breaks from the downpours to see the city. Luckily our hotel was very close to a weekend indoor market and we started our day on Friday there.
