Family 'Round The World

These articles were posted during our very first big international trip when the website was called Family ‘Round The World. (www.familyrtw.com) From 2007-2008 my wife and then six year old son traveled around the world with me and I chronicled the first year of our adventures on the road. These posts cover travel across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central America, Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. Enjoy!

A Descent Into Chaos!

Just as we settled in to the vibe and feel of Bangkok, the city changed tremendously. Overnight, the Songkran Festival started and everyone suddenly started roaming the streets looking for someone to spray with water! We also used this time to visit a famous outdoor market and a historic house in the middle of Bangkok!

The City of Life!

Upon arriving in Bangkok it took us a little time to settle in, but once we did, we managed to cruise along the river, visit Khao San Road and stroll through the massive grounds of one of the world's most famous Buddhist Temples!

Paradise Unrealized!

While the tour we booked out to Thailand's Phi Phi islands was not as described, the scenery was absolutely stunning. On one hand we were upset about being lied to, but on the other it is hard to argue with a place as beautiful as this!!!

A Few More Days On The Beach!

Taking a little break from our backpacking roots, we took advantage of a special rate on a hotel and enjoyed a beach side suite on the island of Phuket! Three days of relaxing helped us restore our energy for the next few days of heavy travel.

Does It Really Look Like A Chicken?

The scenery around Krabi is world famous for good reason. Our snorkeling tour took us to four picturesque locations where we snorkeled and enjoyed the stunning scenery.

Experiencing True Thai Generosity!

1
We experienced true Thai generosity when a local family shared their transportation off of the island, drove us back to town and bought us some small parting gifts on our way to Krabi.

A Lazy Island Day & Frogs Too!

1
On Monday Shawn Reece made a Thai friend, a family of frogs invaded my shoes, and we spent our final full day in Koh Sukhorn lounging around taking it easy. It was the perfect day of rest before resuming life on the road.

Back To The Island Life!

2
Koh Sukhorn was not the prettiest island in Thailand, but it was still very beautiful and the local friendliness put it over the top! The entire island felt safe and we were welcomed by the locals. What a great experience!
