Our final days in Queensland were wrapped in more bad weather and being cooped up in our hotel room. By this point we felt the people in this area of Australia were so different than those down south. Whether it was us or them, it was time to move on and we were looking forward to seeing Darwin before our flight on to Singapore.
Our visit to the Australia Zoo in early 2008 came at a time not long after Steve Irwin was killed. Since I was a fan of Irwin, visiting was an exciting thing for me. The zoo turned out to be large and impressive and their collection of Australian animals was second to none!
During our time in Northern Queensland we visited one of my favorite places of the whole trip. The turtle hatchery at Mon Repos is a protected piece of beach where sea turtles lay their eggs by the thousands. We were blessed enough to watch some of these eggs hatch and the baby turtles make their way into the ocean for the first time!

After leaving Brisbane we suffered through two dreadful days on the Gold Coast. It was pretty much non stop rain so we stayed in our cabin in the holiday park for most of the time. It was so bad that I didn't even take any photos!
On our second day in Brisbane we visited the Queensland Museum and Art Gallery, the state library, and the Brisbane Botanical Gardens before picking up our rental car in preparation for a trip south to Australia's Gold Coast.
Our first day in Brisbane consisted of shopping for travel books, exploring Chinatown, wandering around the Queen Street Mall and enjoying the spectacular urban park known as Roma Street Parklands.
