TikTok Users Will Get Share of $92M Settlement, File Claim Now
Are you a cool kid? Do you have a TikTok account? Then you could have some money coming your way? TikTok has reached a $92 million settlement resolving a class action lawsuit over data privacy in the United States.
TikTok was accused of using and collecting users’ personal data in connection with their use of the app without the proper notice or consent, a violation of state and federal law. The Court has not ruled in favor of any party in this case, and the defendants deny all allegations of wrongdoing as it’s usually the case. But they have reached a settlement in order to avoid the costs and uncertainties associated with taking the case to trial.
This lawsuit affects anyone living in the United States who used the TikTok app before Oct. 1, 2021. Illinois residents are a separate subclass and they may receive a payment of up to six times that of non-Illinois residents thanks to certain specific claims made in the class action lawsuit.
If you qualify for a payment, you must complete and submit a valid Claim Form here. You may also download a Claim Form or request a Claim Form by calling the Settlement Administrator. If you send in a Claim Form by U.S. mail, it must be postmarked by March 1, 2022. If you file a Claim Form online, then you must do so by 11:59 p.m. EST on March 1, 2022.
