Singapore Loses Top Spot of World’s Best Airport in 2021

After many years of holding the title of the World’s Best Airport, Singapore’s Changi Airport has lost its top spot. The latest Skytrax annual ranking of the world’s best airports now has a new winner.

Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) has been awarded the “Best Airport in the World” title for 2021. The Doha airport climbed from third position to lead the global ranking. DOH has also received other titles such as “Best Airport in the Middle East”, “Best Airport 25 to 35 million Passengers”, “Best Airport Staff in the Middle East”, and “COVID-19 Airport Excellence”.

This year, Changi placed only third. The airport has toped the list for years thanks to the ease of travel, comfort and top-notch food and drink options that it offers for passengers.

Doha moving to the top spot in not a coincidence as the Qatari government has invested heavily in both its national carrier Qatar Airways and the airport. Travelers on Qatar Airways who have a connecting flight at DOH can enjoy some rare perks. You can get city tours, free accommodation and food depending on the length of the layover and a VIP transfer service where airline employees meet visitors and guide them through the airport.

Airports in Asia and Europe dominated the rest of the Top 10 list this year, as it’s usually the case. Japan was voted best-rated country overall, with three airports in the top 10, including both of Tokyo’s airports

U.S. airports didn’t make the top 10 list, and also missed on the “Best Airport in North America” title. That went to Canada’s Vancouver International Airport.

    • Not fair to Singapore Changi. Singapore has been mostly shut down with few flights and most F and B outlets closed 2020-21. When they are fully back online they will be #1 again.
