Transfer Points Between Wyndham & Total Rewards
I recently transferred some of my wife’s Wyndham Rewards points to her Total Rewards account for our upcoming May trip for ZorkFest. “She signed up” for the Wyndham Rewards card on her last application spree when it had an increased 45,000 point offer. I was not able to get the card myself, like the 4 others I was denied for :(.
When I had her sign up for it the plan was always to transfer a chunk to Total Rewards for our upcoming trip. The partnership is why I believe the Wyndham card is undervalued.
My Reasoning for the Transfer
After earning the sign up bonus and getting 3,000 points for the annual Platinum member bonus, which she got from being a card holder, she was sitting on 50,000 Wyndham Rewards points. That was enough points to transfer 20,000 points (worth $200) to Total Rewards and still have enough points for a weekend stay at the Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront.
I know that the points would be more valuable if I used 15,000 of that 20,000 for another free night at a Wyndham property but I don’t see myself doing that. And a point unused is truly worthless. Plus this was the plan all along. The goal in this game should be use points in ways that make you happy.
Matching Status
Start by going to this page. This page has links to the status matches and point transfers. Wyndham has their own page for this as well but it is clunkier than the Total Rewards page.
You can status match between the two programs. And since my wife was a newly minted Platinum with Wyndham from her new credit card she could match over to Total Rewards Platinum. TR Platinum comes with a few decent perks including a free stay at Atlantis in the Bahamas, BOGO show tickets in Vegas for select shows, and free parking. Everyone with Wyndham status should perform a status match for this reason.
I submitted her status match on March 5th and the change showed up on her Total Rewards account on March 9th. Not terribly long, but 4 days seems a little slow for a status match to update.
Transferring Points
For transferring points go back to the same page as noted above. Just below the status match option is the transfer option for each program.
The points transfer between both programs at a rate of 1 to 1. Total Rewards reward credits can be transferred to Wyndham in 5,000 point chunks. You can transfer Wyndham Rewards points to Total Rewards in chunks of 10,000 points. You are allowed a maximum of 30,000 points transferred per year between the two programs.
Total Rewards Portal
Wyndham Portal
I submitted the transfer request for 20,000 Wyndham Points to Total Rewards reward credits on March 5th.
The points hit her Total Rewards account on March 12th. The terms did say that it would take 7-14 days for the points to show up in my wife’s account. I was hoping for it to be a little bit quicker but it came in right at 7 days. That is something you should be aware of it you have an upcoming trip. Make sure you give yourself enough time for the points to post.
Now we have $200 in comps to spend at a Total Rewards property. These credits will work on food, drinks, shows, room charges and shopping etc. I think the partnership adds value to Wyndham Rewards and gives you an option for redeeming points that doesn’t involve sleeping at a Wyndham hotel.
Conclusion
Are you sitting on Wyndham Rewards points and struggling to find a worthy redemption? This could be an option for you. Transferring them to Total Rewards reward credits opens up some new doors.
Transferring points may offer the better option when booking rooms in Las Vegas as well. It would be the better option when the rates are really low since free nights cost 15,000 points with Wyndham. If the cash price is less than$150 it would make more sense to transfer the points to Total Rewards reward credits and pay for the room that way.
Make sure you do the status match if you have status with either program. Unlocking Platinum status with Total Rewards opens up a lot of perks, including a free stay at Atlantis in the Bahamas!

Does any one know if I transfer 25,000 points to Caesars does that meet the requirement of 25,000 points to enter diamond lounge’s (extra 5000 to pay entry fee)
They are rewards credits and not tier credits so it wouldn’t count. You could use the points to gain access but you would still have to pay 1K per visit per person. I think they only transfer in chunks of 10K too.
hi, where did you say the T&C that the transfer would take 7-10 days? TR customer service told me it would take 6-8 weeks. thanks.
I think it came up after I transferred the points. Has is been longer than a week or so since you transferred them?
Did you get tier credits when you did the transfer?
Nope just reward credits
can i transfer total rewards to my wife?
Nope has to be the same name on the accounts to go from Wyndham to Total Rewards
Is the 30,000 per calendar year? For example, if I transfer 30,000 Total Rewards to Wyndham today, can I do another transfer in January in 2019? Or do I have to wait until December one year from now?
I believe that would work. I think it is per calendar year.
Hi there,
I have some point expiring soon in WR , I didn’t travel to Vegas and I am not planing to but can I create an account in this program transfer 30K points into it and transfer back to WR and reset the clock to 4 years again ?
Thanks
I am honestly not sure. The limit is 30K each way so it should be theoretically possible. You are going to lose them either way since you can’t extend them past 4 years so it is worth a try if you can’t use them for an upcoming stay.
Total Rewards has a lot of casinos throughout the country that you could use them at too so you may wanna look at that.
It works. I did that all the time. My trick to keep my points indefinitely.
Thanks for the confirmation Wes
Does transfering your WR to TR points count towards Diamond?
No it doesn’t – they a reward credits not tier credits. But if you have Diamond from a match or Founders Card you can use those points to pay the 1,000 credit entry fee for the diamond lounges.
(btw, my 20k WRs just earned me: dinner cruise down the Potomac River; VIP 8.5 hour of DC; & a Dupont Circle Food Tour!)
Nice – congrats!
For me, it’s getting both (unique experiences WITH value).
Wyndham has great auctions (like Chase Experiences/SPG Moments). I have redeemed WR for travel pkgs in Cali & DC I definitely would not have been able to put together on my own (or other higher-priced auctions) so cheaply or comprehensively. Easy to win because others also don’t find much value with Wyndham points so there’s little competition for their good stuff!
Good tip – I’ll have to check that out!
I really value my WRs & would never let them go at .01, Mark! From Dolce Silverado Resort to TRYP Times Square to the Tremont House & Hotel Galvez in Galveston, $300+ rooms for 15k WRs is an easy .02 of value.
Wyndham Grands (Bonnet Creek, Athens) are another example of some really nice properties, & they allow the same 15k redemptions on suites if available. I recently returned from a newly refurnished 700 sq ft cottage in Napa with a PGA golf course view/fireplace starter service/own garage for 15k WRs.
Wyndham is an international force, progresing into cottages, condos, & villas to round out their vacation portfolio offerings. Not just HoJos & Super 8s any longer by a longshot. I have both WR credit cards & try to max out quarterly bonus challenge offerings for easy point additions.
I planned on using the free nights at Tryp but it is hard to get availability and they don’t have any rooms for my July trip. It is hit or miss there.
I don’t plan on going anywhere else anytime soon that they have a valuable redemption. Do they have some great hotels? Sure. Do they have many – not really.
This was the plan from the beginning. I have plenty of hotel points so burning 20k so we can have fun on vacation doesn’t bother me.
For me this game is about doing things you wouldn’t be able to do otherwise, not about getting the best perceived value out of points.
btw, as a mlife gold member would i get free parking at any mgm resorts even if i don’t stay overnight at the resort? TIA
Yes I think self and valet is free as a gold member
thx, confirmed what i had thought; don’t have to stay for free parking
You just swipe your Mlife card when you leave; no hotel key card or room receipt required.
thx for the post, Mark. Lol, did a similar xfer earlier this week thinking that would take effect almost instantly so i could use the credit for a trip to LAS; when not seeing anything after a day, reached out to wyndham on twitter, who replied to my inquiry as follows:
Thank you for reaching out to us! The points will take 6 to 8 weeks to show in your Total Rewards account. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
I hope not – should be there early next week I would think.
hi, do u still recall how long it took for your transfer? thank.
