The Terms

  • This offer is open to existing Elevate® program members (Referrer) who refer non-Elevate members (Referee) to join the Elevate Program via the ‘Flights with Bennies’ promotion microsite.
  • Referees are required to enroll in the Elevate program via the email, Facebook, or Twitter referral link as received by the Referee.
  • Offer ends March 31, 2016.
  • For every person you refer who enrolls in the Elevate program, up to 5 people, you will earn 500 bonus reward points.
  • You can also refer yourself and earn 500 bonus points, which counts towards the 5 person limit.

You can find the full terms and referral links on the promotion page.

How Much Is This Worth?

I have talked before about the value of Virgin America Elevate points, especially for short haul flights. In most cases these points are worth about $.02 each or more. Better yet, on routes like Las Vegas to Los Angeles, you can get a one-way flight for just over 1,000 points + $5.60.

The flight above goes for $39 including all fees. That means you are redeeming 1,117 points for $33.40. In this scenario the points are worth 2.99 cents each. In other words, by referring people you could get $50 or more value making this a very decent promotion.

Refer Yourself or Use Someone’s Link?

In my opinion it is best to refer yourself and earn 1,000 points up front. When you refer yourself it does count against your cap of 5 referrals so if you think you can easily refer others then perhaps it is smart to use someone else’s referral link. If you want to use someone’s link or don’t feel comfortable referring yourself, here is my referral link.

Conclusion

If you have friends or family who aren’t members of Virgin America’s Elevate program, it doesn’t hurt to get them signed up. Of course, there is always the decision as to whether or not you should let them refer themselves and earn 1,000. I’ll leave that up to you. Happy earning!
