Voice Credit Card from Huntington Bank Details
I recently received a targeted offer in the mall from Huntington Bank. Huntington Bank is a regional bank that I am pretty familiar with because of their awesome bank bonus offers. They are mainly located in the Midwest but I am not sure if their products are available nationwide. I usually throw away these regional bank credit card offers but I found the Voice credit card from Huntington Bank interesting.
Card Details
The welcome offer in the flyer was:
- $200 after spending $500
That isn’t anything amazing but 40% back is always welcomed. There are quite a few similar welcome offers out there but I don’t think there is normally a bonus with this card. The earning structure is what I found really interesting though:
- Earn 3 points per dollar spend in the category of your choice each quarter:
- Gas stations
- Travel & entertainment
- Restaurants
- Discount & warehouse stores
- Grocery stores
- Utilities & office supply stores
- Electronics, computer & camera stores
- Department, apparel & sporting goods stores
- Auto parts & service stores
- Home improvement stores
You get the 3% on the first $2000 in spend per quarter.
A few of these options are unique and are not normal bonus areas. Warehouse stores (Sam’s Club etc.) comes with some possibilities. Especially if it codes properly for Costco online, where they accept MasterCard. Utilities is also a solid option for energy and water bills etc. It is hard to get a bonus on auto repairs too.
I also like that it is from a smaller bank which gives me an application break from the larger banks.

Why I May Not Get It
3% back on the things I listed above is a pretty great deal and it is 50% more than the traditional 2% card in those areas. The problem is I have not maxed out my American Express Blue Business Plus and the 2X Membership Rewards points on the first $50,000 in spend each year yet. So it makes more sense to use that card. I am also still working on the free night spend for the World of Hyatt card and the Ascend Hilton card.
Having said that some of my larger utilities do not accept American Express. I guess you could say the internal debate rages on.
Conclusion
While this card may not be a good fit for me at this time I do see some value in it. If the card is used properly then the Voice credit card from Huntington Bank could be a decent weapon for any arsenal. People that know what they are doing should be able to rack up $240 in cashback every year pretty easily with this card.

I have this Voice card and use the 3% category at grocery stores after I max out the 5% grocery category with Freedom and Discover. My bonus was only $100 for $500 spend, about 2 years ago.
They just introduced a business card offering 4% in similar categories, and I’ve been waiting for a bonus on that, especially since a business card won’t count against Chase 5/24. They did offer a short-time $100 bonus, but you were not eligible if you already had the personal card. When I eventually do get the business card, however, I’ll probably use the 4% on groceries, and change my 3% personal card to the utility category.
The business card does look very intriguing. If they would put any type of bonus on it I think they would get a influx of applications.
Yeah, I have the same debate internally in whether to convert my Freedom back to a Freedom unlimited. I put all my ordinary spend on the BBP and the Altitude Reserve, and the only thing I put on my B of A premium rewards (2.62%) is ordinary spend where they don’t take Amex or have contactless. eg: utilities. Giving up 5x in the bonus categories that I max out is painful to get a marginally better return on non Amex ordinary spend.
The regular Freedom with 5X categories is going to be the better option for almost everyone. I would say stick with that – you won’t spend enough on the CFU to make up for it.
