Walmart to Offer Western Union Services

Walmart has announced a new agreement that will, for the first time, enable Western Union money transfer services at Walmart locations across the U.S. bringing greater choice and value to millions of customers.

The services will include domestic and international money transfers, bill payments and money orders. The latter is an option that some readers will probably appreciate. Purchasing money orders is one of the ways to increase credit card spending.

These new Western Union services will be offered at more than 4,700 Walmart stores with a rollout planned to begin in the spring of 2021.

We have seen some issues recently at Walmart so having Western Union as an option could turn things around. Mark wrote in November that Simon Mall gift cards and Metabank gift cards were not working at certain Walmart locations. And even if they did work, people would have to swipe each card three or four times to complete a transaction. Then there was a new limit of $49.99 which basically makes it worthless. We’ll see how Western Union is implemented and how it will work for these purposes when it is rolled out in the spring of this year. Maybe we’ll even see Western Union money order machines.

International money transfers are also a good option to keep in mind when traveling the world. Ryan has talked about the option of sending money to yourself in the past. This is something that might come in handy if you don’t want to carry cash with you and are traveling to countries where you can’t U.S.-backed ATM cards.

  1. Kate has left her bridegroom at that alter and moved on with her life. Yet, she is still with us. The worthy soul who seeks shall find. If he knocks, the door will be opened. The resources are abundant, for those willing to put in the effort. Kate is right in front of you each day, yet you simply do not see her.

  2. I hope that this doesn’t screw up the current Moneygram money order sevice that they currently offer. Or if it replaces it, that it will continue to accept visa gift cards.
