Walmart Will Launch $98 Subscription Service
We first wrote about Walmart+ early this year. But Walmart’s plans to launch the subscription service were disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak. But now the retail giant is set to finally start offering the new service.
Walmart will reportedly launch the subscription service, similar to Amazon Prime, this month. The membership plan will be called Walmart Plus and will cost $98 a year, Recode reports. An annual Amazon Prime membership costs $119 but also includes other services.
Full details about the service or its exact launch date have not been revealed yet. But the subscription will include perks like same-day delivery of groceries and general merchandise, discounts on fuel at Walmart gas stations, and early access to product deals, Recode says.
Walmart also has plans to add video entertainment components to the program, something that Amazon Prime memberships offer. Walmart unveiled Camp by Walmart this week, a free star-studded virtual camp that brings summer fun directly to customers’ own backyards. So that could be something that adds value to the Walmart+ membership.

“a free star-studded virtual camp that brings summer fun directly to customers’ own backyards” How exciting. NOT. I want to get OUT of my house, not watch more stuff on TV / Internet.
🙁 Not a very exciting lineup for now, even for those who want to stay home.
