What Credit Cards Are Currently In My Wallet & Why
I thought it would be interesting to share what credit cards are currently in my wallet and share the reasons why. Please list which ones you are currently carrying and why below in the comments section.
My Current Lineup
Chase World of Hyatt Visa
This Offer Has Ended
The card at the very front of my wallet right now is the new Chase World of Hyatt Visa. You can read my review HERE. This card was launched a few weeks ago to much fan fare, and for good reason. I plan on continuing to use this card for at least $15,000 in spend to earn the free night as well.
Current Categories: Non Bonused & Restaurant Spend
American Express Hilton Honors Ascend
The American Express Ascend was the card I was using for all non bonused spend until I signed up for the Hyatt card. Like the Hyatt card I am trying to try to earn the free night after $15,000 in spend within a calendar year (Learn More). I have around $4,000 in spend remaining (got a late start). For the time being the Ascend is on the back burner. Until I finish the welcome bonus spend for the Chase Hyatt card at least.
Once I finish the $6,000 in spend on my Hyatt card I will move the Ascend back to the front of the wallet since the free night is based on calendar year. The World of Hyatt card’s free night bonus is based on cardmember year which gives me more time to complete the spend. I am still using the Ascend card on grocery purchases since that is not a bonus category for the Hyatt card.
Current Categories: Grocery Spend
Chase Ink Plus
The Chase Ink Plus is no longer available for applications but the Chase Ink Cash is and it has the same 5X earning categories, but lower limits ($25,000 per year). I use this card for anything I can earn 5X Ultimate Rewards on. That includes my cell phone, cable, internet, Netflix, office stores, Swych and everything else!
This is my favorite card overall since it is the best way to rack up valuable Ultimate Rewards.
Current Categories: Anything That Earns 5X UR Points
American Express Blue Business Plus
This Offer Has Ended
The American Express Blue Business Plus is the best card out there for non bonused spend. This will be my go to card once I earn the free night on my Hyatt and Hilton Ascend card.
The Blue Business Plus earns 2X Membership Rewards points on all purchases. That earning rate is capped at $50,000 each year (Learn More). That is amazing value! The card recently added a 10,000 Membership Reward welcome bonus as well.
I have the very valuable 10% Amex Offers for this card. Because of those I have been making my Target and Amazon purchases with the card, via the gift card route. My gas purchases have been with this card as well, at Mobil stations, because of the Amex Offer.
Current Categories: Amazon, Target, Gas
American Express Platinum Card
The final card in my wallet is the American Express Platinum card. I rarely pull it out of there since I only use it for airline purchases to earn 5X with it. I mainly keep it in my wallet so that I don’t miss out on the best lounge access in the biz!
Current Categories: Airline Purchases & Lounge Access
Conclusion
Those are the cards I currently carry in my wallet and why. I use other cards when offers come up, like valuable Amex Offers, but they are just rotated in. These are the mainstays. Which cards do you currently have in your wallet everyday and why? Let me know in the comments section.

I know this was s out of the mainstream because no bonus involved but Chase Southwest business visa for no bonus spend b/c we commute to see grandchild on southwest and have companion pass
Do you have the CSR or CSP that you could put it on that instead so there are more options including Southwest? Or if you have one of those the CFU then
3x plane, hotel, & restaurants – CSR; 3x cell phone (for the insurance) – CIP; 5x categories – CF, CIC, & Discover It; 3x everything else – CFU & some on 2% Citi CB
I thought the free night after $15K is during the anniversary year, in other words, the second year you have the card. Am I misinterpreting this? Is it the same year you get the card? My husband hit the $6K, but we socked the card away until next year, when after the AF hit, we were planning on putting $15K on it. Can anyone clarify what “anniversary year” means?
You can earn it in year one of your cardmember anniversary. Anniversary year is the time in between annual fees.
Identical but add Chase freedom for category spend, Chase Iberia for 100k Aviod at 20k spend and 1k companion pass at 30k spend.
Also spend on Wofh for explorist status , and another free night, and ascend to 40k Diamond status is attractive, but that’s a lot of spend!
I don’t think Diamond status is that much more valuable than gold – easier to get it via Aspire anyway 🙂
I’m using Amex Blue Business Plus with 2x MR and Alliant CU Visa Signature with 3% cash back in the first
year -for the daily spend. Disco and Chase Freedom with 5 x categories. I’d like to ask your opinion guys – I’m thinking of PC my good ol’ Amex OBC since the post offices aren’t working anymore for MO route – what do you think would be the best option to PC to?
Maybe the Blue Cash or Blue Cash everyday for the grocery bonus.
I use Discover Miles for all non bonus categories for 3% CB on my first year having this card. IME, they give very generous credit limits.
That is a solid choice
I got my spouse a Freedom Unlimited during that short period where they were offering 3x UR points on EVERYTHING for the first card-holder year! So that’s what we’re using for unbonused spend through next April. Yowza! We both carry the Amex BCP for groceries (6x cash back), and two cards is all he’s willing to carry around, so that’s that. I carry a few others with 5x categories.
The 3X FU is tough to beat!
new WoH for the $15k free night, Delta plat biz for the 70k signup bonus. I do plan to circle back to try to hit the HHonors biz $15k free night at some point.
I am a sucker for those free nights
I have the Citi Double Cash as my card I use for the non bonus categories.
That is a good one for non bonused spend as well.
How’re you earning 5x UR on the CIP? Is it through manufactured spending?
Sorry to clarify. I meant on groceries specifically.
He didn’t say groceries, but some office supply stores sell gift cards to grocery stores.
Correct Jason some sell Whole Foods and Target gift cards etc if you want to do it that way.
