World of Hyatt Award Nights Not Posting
I was as excited as anyone to find out the recent news that World of Hyatt will now count award nights towards elite status qualification. Of course the first reason is that as someone who has a decent number of miles/points, it is often hard to justify paying cash for hotels.
While award stays didn’t count before 2018, Hyatt threw us a bone with Points + Cash counting towards status. Since I value my Hyatt Globalist status, I would buy discounted gift cards to bring the cash portion down and use the points to offset my cost. Unfortunately World of Hyatt Points + Cash awards aren’t always available and the gift cards have been subject to fraud as well.
Thankfully those issues are now in the past for those lucky people who have enough points to cover their stays. Not only do you have the option for cash or points + cash when it makes sense, you can use all points. And since Hyatt requires all standard award rooms be available redemption, it is often easy to find award space. (Although hotels do play games be reclassifying base rooms.)
Starting Off the Year
The other major reason I was excited for this change is because I am in Mexico on award stays for the entire first week of January. My first award stay was at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun from December 31 – January 4. As per Hyatt’s terms a stay counts based on the checkout date, so I fully expected those four nights to post.
Unfortunately, the stay posted yesterday with “0” eligible nights. I hadn’t charged anything to the room so I earned 0 points, but I should have earned 4 eligible nights. At first I worried they weren’t giving them to me because of the check-in date, but being sure of the terms I decided to contact them.
I have had very mixed results from calling Hyatt, but have generally had good success contacting them via social media. While a team member received the wrong information via Twitter the other day, in general they are helpful and the great thing about social media is you can talk to another rep later if there is an issue.
Fortunately I didn’t have any issues this time. After contacting them with my inquiry, I confirmed my account information and received a response within an hour or so that the 4 nights had been credited to my account.
Conclusion
I’m not sure if Hyatt’s website simply hasn’t been updated to include award stays yet or if my check-in date messed things up, but the fix was quick enough and now thanks to my Mexican vacation, I’m starting off the year with a nice chunk of nights that will count towards re-qualifying.

I was at the Hyatt Ziva PR from12/31-1/6 on award stay. It did not post
Actually, I used my Hyatt card night over new year at the Hyatt Regency Dallas, and (much to my surprise) I have 1 night’s stay credit on my account!
I had the same issue and it took a bit of trouble to get it fixed as my new Globalist Concierge was making stuff up to justify why I hadn’t received the stay credit—I suspect that will be my last interaction with her. Someone better informed what able to straighten things out.
Hyatt Gift Cards? You’re braver than me…. after much drama with Hyatt Gift Cards (cards drained after purchase), I won’t touch them with a 10 foot pole no matter what the savings….
I had the same experience. Had a single award night on Jan 2 – Jan 3. My dining posted but eligible night didn’t. Simple tweet helped resolve it right away
